Phong Nha Cave Water Cave, Vietnam: An Amazing Underground Boat Experience
When talking about northern Vietnam with its rich nature and mysterious underground caves, “Phong Nha Cave” orPhong Nha Caveis one of the places I, mr.hotsia, must say you absolutely cannot miss. Getting here is not as simple as just landing and taking a taxi because Phong Nha Cave is located in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, Quảng Bình Province, which remains a very peaceful and pristine natural area.
I arrived excited with my camera and a heart eager to experience this world-famous cave. On a day when the sun wasn’t too hot, I chose to take a boat along the river flowing through the cave entrance leading into Phong Nha Cave. The highlight of this cave is the “water cave” where you can boat through beautiful limestone walls with stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations.
The Feeling of Boating Inside the Water Cave
What I, mr.hotsia, loved most was the quietness and cool moisture inside the cave. It was completely different from the busy city atmosphere. The small boat we rode was a traditional wooden boat, with a professional boatman skilled in the route and timing. At some points, we had to duck very low to pass through narrow cave openings, making it feel like a real underground adventure.
The light filtering in from the cave mouth revealed the beautiful natural patterns of the limestone structures. At some spots, water dripped rhythmically, and the sound of flowing water echoed inside like natural music surrounding us. I have visited other caves in northern Vietnam, such as inLạng Sơn Provincebut at Phong Nha, the grandeur and completeness of the underground nature are entirely different.
Preparation and Travel to Phong Nha Cave
For anyone wanting to experience Phong Nha Cave, I recommend planning ahead because traveling from main cities may require time and multiple transfers. I, mr.hotsia, started from Da Nang city, took a bus to Quảng Bình Province, then a local vehicle to Phong Nha National Park. Booking a water cave boat tour should be done through accommodations or local tour companies for convenience and safety.
What to prepare includes quick-drying clothes, shoes suitable for walking on boats and wet areas, and a flashlight if you want to explore darker parts of the cave. Photographing inside requires caution due to moisture and low light. I, mr.hotsia, used a camera capable of low-light photography which helped capture beautiful shots from various angles.
Surrounding Atmosphere and Local Lifestyle
Besides the cave’s wonders, the area around Phong Nha has a simple and warm local lifestyle. I had the chance to talk with locals working as guides or boatmen. They told me that Phong Nha Cave is an important natural heritage site and a main source of income for the community. Sustainable tourism that respects nature is something they highly value.
If you enjoy authentic travel experiences, I recommend trying local Vietnamese food at nearby markets and relaxing amidst nature after a tiring trip, just as I experienced atNha Trang Seaor at Vietnamese morning markets full of fresh produce and local dishes.
