Underground Wonder of Phong Nha Cave, Vietnam

When talking about adventure in northern Vietnam, one place that mr.hotsia must say you should not miss is "Phong Nha Cave" or Phong Nha Cave, a cave acclaimed as one of the largest and most beautiful caves in the world. It is located in Quang Binh Province, which is not far from Lang Son Province, a place I have traveled to and shared about inLang Son Province, VietnamBut Phong Nha offers a completely different feeling.

The first time I arrived at Phong Nha Cave, it felt like stepping into an underground world full of mystery and untouched natural beauty. Inside the cave, there are stalactites and stalagmites with unusual shapes and colors. The carefully arranged lighting highlights the beauty and creates a more enchanting atmosphere. Cruising through the cave along the underground river was another highlight that impressed me greatly, as the boat slowly glided through narrow passages and wide chambers of the cave. The dark underground sky was replaced by the sound of flowing water and a peaceful silence that gave an incredible sense of calm.

I remember there were several tour levels to choose from, ranging from simple round-trip boat rides through Phong Nha Cave, which take about an hour, to more adventurous explorations of deeper and more complex cave sections, suitable for those who enjoy excitement and challenges. But for mr.hotsia, the first time, just experiencing the wonder of this cave was enough.

Lifestyle Near Phong Nha Cave

Besides the grandeur of the cave, the surrounding area is filled with small villages where locals still live simple and friendly lives. I had the chance to stroll around the village, tasting local food at roadside stalls, including sticky rice with grilled pork in a traditional recipe and fresh vegetables grown locally. It felt like stepping back in time to an era with little technology.

During my visit, the weather was quite hot and humid but not as hot as I experienced in Lang Son city, which I wrote about inLang Son Province, Vietnam articleThe heat there was slightly more intense, but in Phong Nha, the weather was cooler, especially in the evenings before sunset, making riverside walks near the cave my favorite time.

Travel and Accommodation

Traveling to Phong Nha Cave is fairly convenient. I chose to take a bus from Da Lat city, which I have written about inBuddhist Temples in Da Lat CityUpon arriving in Quang Binh Province, I took a local vehicle to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, where Phong Nha Cave is located. This mode of travel allowed me to fully see local lifestyles and the nature along the way.

There are various accommodation options in the area, from small homestays arranged by locals to mid-range resorts with full amenities. However, mr.hotsia recommends staying in a homestay to truly experience the local atmosphere, as you not only get the warmth from the hosts but also enjoy freshly made local dishes every day.

A Unique Special Experience

What I liked most from this trip was kayaking into parts of Phong Nha Cave that are not yet open as main tourist routes. It was a time of peaceful immersion in nature. In some parts of the cave, it was so quiet that I could clearly hear water dripping onto the rock floor, and the light from my flashlight revealed the beautiful details of the stalactites and stalagmites up close.

Additionally, walking around the natural surroundings allowed me to encounter small wildlife and various bird species that are rare to see in big cities. This experience greatly enriched my happiness and peace during this journey.

Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia

Phong Nha Cave is not just an ordinary tourist spot; it is a gateway to an underground world full of natural wonders. Visiting this cave reminded me of the importance of preserving nature and local culture for the future. For those who love adventure and want to experience tranquility in an atmosphere different from big cities, Phong Nha is the answer that mr.hotsia confidently guarantees.
