Quang Ngai Vietnam Carrying Ginger to Sell, Quang Ngai City, Vietnam

When talking about Vietnam, many might think of Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, or famous tourist destinations like Nha Trang. But for me, mr.hotsia, Quang Ngai is another city worth watching and sharing from my real experience. “Quang Ngai City” is a small city that still firmly preserves the simple lifestyle of authentic Vietnamese people.

Upon arriving in Quang Ngai, I took a bus from a major city in southern Vietnam. It didn’t take long, but once there, it felt like entering another world. The community here has a local market I fondly call the “Ginger Market” because one of the most common and prominent products is fresh ginger carried by locals selling by the roadside. The market atmosphere is filled with the scent of spices and the bold flavors of local food.

I walked around capturing the morning market atmosphere. This market is unlike the large, bustling tourist markets; it’s a genuine local market where people buy and sell from early dawn. I saw elderly people carrying fresh ginger from the fields on carts with gentle smiles—a rare sight in an era dominated by modernity.

If I were to compare with nearby provinces such asLang Son Provincewhich I have visited and written about before, Quang Ngai is calmer and more distinctly local. Lang Son is known for its high mountains and large rivers, while Quang Ngai emphasizes the simplicity of life and delicious local food that I must share.

Lifestyle and Local Markets in Quang Ngai

The morning market in Quang Ngai is where I spent most of my first day. Here you find fresh vegetables, fruits, and local products like ginger, which is a major export of the province. I saw vendors and locals chatting in the warm local dialect, like a bond passed down through generations.

A must-try dish when visiting Quang Ngai is “Chicken Biryani,” which has a distinctly different flavor from other places. I have tasted chicken biryani in both southern and northern Vietnam, but here it has a unique charm that reminds me more of my hometown’s taste. (If you want to see full Vietnamese food videos, check outVietnamese Chicken Biryanithat I have uploaded.) The biryani here is fragrant with spices and the chicken is tender, served with fresh vegetables grown locally.

Additionally, I tried grilled button squid at a small roadside stall. It’s a popular dish among locals, with a spicy, smoky flavor that stuck with me, making me return several times. (If you want to see how grilled button squid is made fresh, check outVietnamese Grilled Button Squid)

Travel and Accommodation in Quang Ngai

For travelers like me, mr.hotsia, I recommend taking a bus from nearby major cities or airports in southern Vietnam to Quang Ngai. Bus travel is convenient, affordable, with comfortable seats and beautiful views of southern Vietnam along the way.

For accommodation, I stayed at a small guesthouse with very friendly owners. The rooms were clean and affordable, perfect for those wanting to experience authentic local life, unlike luxury hotels in big cities. If you plan to continue traveling to other cities such asVinh Long Bus Stationor onward to coastal cities like Nha Trang, it’s easy to arrange from here.

Impressions from Quang Ngai City

What impressed me most was the friendliness of the locals, whether market vendors or drivers I asked for travel advice. Everyone was willing to help and talk sincerely. It was an experience that made me realize Vietnam is not only about big cities but also small towns full of charm and lifestyles worth exploring.

If you enjoy deep travel and want to experience real life in Vietnam, I, mr.hotsia, recommend stopping by Quang Ngai once. You will see another side of this country that few talk about but holds great value.

If you are interested in more travel stories in Vietnam, I have written aboutLang Son Provincewhich has different landscapes and cultures, including recommendations for Buddhist temples in Da Lat city that are peaceful and beautiful, such asTruc Lam Templewhich should nicely complement your Vietnam trip.
