SAPA 2015 Sapa Vietnam 2015: A travel experience to the land of mountains and local culture
I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit Sapa in 2015, a small town in northern Vietnam known by many as a place full of beautiful nature and diverse indigenous tribes. This trip was not just ordinary tourism but a genuine experience of local life, strolling along paths surrounded by steep mountains and thick mist shimmering throughout the day.
Travel and Preparation to Sapa
Sapa is located in Lào Cai province near the Chinese border. Traveling from Hanoi takes about 5-6 hours by bus or van. I chose to travel overnight to save time and wake up to mountain views glowing in the early morning. The winding and steep roads require caution, but the atmosphere along the way makes you forget all fatigue.

Atmosphere and Lifestyle in Sapa
As soon as I got off the vehicle, I felt the cool, comfortable air distinctly different from Hanoi. The temperature in late rainy and early winter season in May remains pleasantly cool, perfect for hiking. Sapa is home to many hill tribes such as the Hmong, Giáy, and Black Thai, each with their own traditional costumes and languages.
I stayed at a guesthouse in downtown Sapa, which was convenient and cozy. The local owner was friendly and helped recommend hiking trails and local markets.
Morning Market and Must-Try Local Food
The morning market in Sapa is another highlight I highly recommend everyone experience firsthand. The market is full of colorful handwoven fabrics, local produce, and a variety of native foods. I tried “Grilled Button Squid,” a local seafood dish from northern Vietnam with a spicy and aromatic herbal flavor. You can experience this local food in my video atGrilled Button Squid Vietnamwhich shows the real market atmosphere.
There is also Vietnamese Chicken Biryani that I tried and was equally impressed by. The flavor is rich and the spices are distinctive of northern Vietnam. Watch my video atVietnamese Chicken Biryanito enhance your travel experience.
Hiking and Watching the Sea of Mist on the Mountains
Sapa is famous for its hiking trails and beautiful landscapes. I spent a day trekking to visit hill tribe villages and terraced tea plantations. The climb was not easy, but reaching the summit and seeing the sea of mist covering the complex mountain ranges was an unforgettable sight.
