Vietnamese Seafood Market: Experience coastal life through the eyes of mr.hotsia

I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit a seafood market in Vietnam, one of the fresh markets full of life and the true scent of the sea. Although I did not specify the province clearly, the atmosphere and culture of this seafood market reflect the coastal fishermen's way of life, harmoniously preserved with nature and local authenticity.

The seafood market I visited is located along the coast where locals often line up their fishing boats to unload fresh seafood into the market. The early morning atmosphere is especially lively because it is the time when fishermen return from the sea with squid, shrimp, shellfish, crabs, fish, and other sea creatures still fresh and swimming in baskets or shallow water tanks spread throughout the market area.

One thing I like about walking through the Vietnamese seafood market is seeing the friendly selling style of the vendors, communicating with hand gestures and smiles, along with natural calls to customers. Sometimes locals sit and choose fresh fish to cook at home, or tourists like me can't resist trying freshly grilled button squid, hot off the grill, with the fragrant aroma of sea and spices wafting to the nose, making you feel like you are truly tasting authentic Vietnamese coastal cuisine. (If interested in the Vietnamese grilled button squid I tried, see inthis video)

This seafood market offers a variety of aquatic animals that are not easily found elsewhere, such as various fish species including deep-sea and coastal fish, as well as fresh oysters newly caught by locals. Anyone who loves fresh seafood will surely fall in love with this market.

Besides the market atmosphere, I also saw how locals preserve fish using natural methods, such as salt and ice made from seawater to maintain freshness, as well as arranging fish attractively to draw customers. Sometimes there are fresh fish auctions, which are fun activities and help strengthen community bonds among locals.

Another interesting aspect of the Vietnamese seafood market is learning about the lifestyle of coastal fishermen, which I have written about in an article onLang Son Provincewith its high mountains and the Ky Cung River flowing through Lang Son city. Although it is not a direct coastal city, the region's atmosphere clearly shows the way of life of northern Vietnamese locals and helped me understand the relationship between nature and culture here better.

If you are planning a trip to Vietnam and want to deeply experience local life, this seafood market is a destination not to be missed. Besides seeing a variety of fresh seafood, it is also a great opportunity to chat and exchange experiences with locals and taste freshly prepared seafood right there.

Travel Tips and Recommendations from mr.hotsia

Most seafood markets in Vietnam are easily accessible by public transport or taxi from main cities. I have used the bus station in nearby cities such asVinh Long Bus Stationto travel conveniently to coastal areas or fishing grounds where new seafood markets open.

It is recommended to visit in the morning as the market opens at dawn and this is when the freshest seafood is brought in for sale. The lively and vibrant atmosphere will give you an authentic experience. Also, prepare enough cash because most shops do not accept card payments yet, and don't forget to bring cloth or plastic bags for carrying fresh purchases home.

Experience Vietnam through Seafood Markets and Food

For me, mr.hotsia, visiting seafood markets is not just shopping but immersing in the local people's life closely, similar to when I shared stories about Buddhist temples in Dalat citytherewhere besides learning history and religion, you also see the daily life of people in a small town with a simple and peaceful lifestyle.

At the seafood market, I also tried Vietnamese chicken biryani, a simple dish with a rich flavor made from fresh seafood ingredients. (If you want to see me eating Vietnamese chicken biryani, watchthis video) Eating here is not just about taste but a connection between the sea, nature, and community in perfect harmony.

The Vietnamese seafood market is more than just a fresh market. It is a place of life, lifestyle, and culture that I, mr.hotsia, invite everyone to see and experience for themselves. Then you will understand why this market remains fresh and charming without fading.
