This kind of atmosphere still exists in the world. This is Châu Đốc, southern Vietnam, cruising and birdwatching in the Mekong Delta on the Vietnam border
If you ask where in the world still has places with an atmosphere like stepping back in time to when nature was still pure and mostly untouched, I, mr.hotsia, want to tell you about a small town calledChâu Đốc(Châu Đốc) located in southern Vietnam, bordering Cambodia. This town is like a gateway to the vast Mekong Delta, full of vibrant nature and a perfect blend of cultures.
Traveling to Châu Đốc was not difficult for me because previously I had passed throughVinh Long bus stationwhich is the main transfer point of the Mekong Delta. From Vinh Long, I took a bus to Sa Đéc and then another ride until finally arriving at Châu Đốc. Traveling by bus and local transport allowed me to experience the daily life of riverside villagers, see fresh markets along the road, and smell local food aromas throughout the journey.
As soon as I arrived in Châu Đốc, the first thing I had to do was take a boat cruise to see the lifestyle along the Mekong River with its perfect natural atmosphere. The boat I rode was a small wooden boat, simple and not crowded like typical tourist boats. I saw various birds flying swiftly above the water surface, including ducks, storks, and seagulls peacefully feeding. The sounds of birds singing mixed with flowing water created a natural symphony I had never heard anywhere else.
The Mekong River here is vast and peaceful beyond description. I saw small fishing boats floating at a distance with villagers skillfully catching fish by hand. Sometimes villagers used nets to catch shrimp or crabs in small canals flowing from the big river. This simple lifestyle deeply connected with nature is the charm that made me, mr.hotsia, fall in love with Châu Đốc and never want to leave.
Châu Đốc also has a very interesting floating market. This market is not a large tourist floating market like others but represents the real life of locals who sell fresh goods, vegetables, fruits, and seafood caught from the Mekong River by boat. I wandered through the market alleys and saw Vietnamese and Cambodian women wearing conical hats selling goods diligently. The warm and friendly atmosphere was something I had never encountered in typical tourist spots.
If you enjoy travel focused on nature and local culture, Châu Đốc is a destination I, mr.hotsia, strongly recommend. Here you will find not only the Mekong River and many bird species but also delicious local dishes like fish noodle soup and grilled cuttlefish that I tasted at a small riverside restaurant. The food was fresh and perfectly suited to Thai tastes like mine. Anyone who loves trying new things should not miss this.
At night, Châu Đốc becomes very quiet with only lights from houses and fishing boats floating on the water. I strolled along the riverbank amid cool breezes and occasional earthy scents. It is an atmosphere that truly says, “This kind of place still exists in the world.”
For those interested in traveling to northern Vietnam or wanting to experience the beauty of mountains and nature in nearby provinces, I have written about my experiences inLạng Sơn Provincewhich is a mountainous province near the Chinese border with forests and fascinating culture. Or if you like city atmospheres with beautiful Buddhist temples like Trúc Lâm Temple in Đà Lạt, you can readthis articleto prepare and plan your trip more easily.
Finally, I, mr.hotsia, want to say that Châu Đốc is not a commercial tourist city like Hội An or Nha Trang but a place that still firmly preserves the charm of nature and local lifestyle. Here you will see the simplicity of riverside life that remains happy and perfect in its own way.
If you want to escape the hustle and bustle, cruise to see nature, and listen to birdsong in the morning, Châu Đốc in the Mekong Delta is the answer I, mr.hotsia, want you to experience yourself.
