Morning Mist in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province, Vietnam
One morning in Dong Ha City, Quang Tri Province, Vietnam, the thick mist was so dense that the long road ahead was barely visible. This is an image I, mr.hotsia, experienced myself and can say it is the charming allure of this small town hidden in the northern corner of Vietnam.
Dong Ha may not be a famous tourist city like Hanoi or Lao Cai, but its simplicity and the thick morning mist make it distinctly different. When I arrived early in the morning, the sunlight was still soft, white mist covered the entire town, the sound of crickets and the scent of damp earth evoked a sense of peace and the purity of nature here.
I wandered through small streets lined with traditional Vietnamese wooden houses, tall trees, and rice fields on both sides. The mist covering the town softened everything, as if in a watercolor painting. The cool weather was a clear contrast to the hot and humid climate of big cities like Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh.
Traveling to Dong Ha was not difficult. I chose the route connecting Quang Tri Province and Lang Son Province, a province I had previously visited to enjoy its beautiful mountains and nature.Lang Son ProvinceLocated not far from Dong Ha, and if you are interested in natural routes and local culture, stopping by this town is a good option.
In the morning, Dong Ha’s market gradually became lively. I explored a small fresh market where locals sold fresh produce and local food. The atmosphere was full of sincerity and simplicity. Vendors chatted warmly. The dish I couldn’t miss was the grilled button squid, whose aroma of spices and charcoal made the squid tender and juicy.Watch the video of Vietnamese Grilled Button SquidThat I recorded right here.
Besides seafood, Dong Ha also offers authentic Vietnamese coffee to try. While sipping hot coffee in front of a small shop, the aroma of freshly ground roasted coffee mixed with the cool morning mist made me feel refreshed and ready for the next journey.
I recommend walking around the town in the late morning after the mist has cleared. You will clearly see the lifestyle of the locals—people going to work in gardens and fields, or children playing along the small streets. The peaceful atmosphere feels like stepping back in time before the hustle of big cities arrived.
If you plan to visit Dong Ha, I suggest scheduling your trip a little before sunrise to experience the thick morning mist as I did. Don’t forget to prepare clothing suitable for the cool morning weather, as temperatures here can be much lower than expected.
For accommodation in Dong Ha, most are small and simple guesthouses, but with good service and affordable prices, suitable for travelers wanting to experience the real lifestyle of northern Vietnam.
