Ho Chi Minh City Viewed from a Hotel Window: Travel Diary by mr.hotsia

When it comes to traveling in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City is often a destination that many travelers don't miss. Although I, mr.hotsia, have passed through this city many times, viewing the city through a hotel window this time gave me an indescribably different feeling. It was like seeing the life of Vietnamese people through a closer and more intimate lens than ever before.

The hotel I stayed at this time was neither luxurious nor located in the city center, but it was in a location where I could clearly see the daily life of the locals. This is my favorite spot when traveling because it allows me to truly absorb the atmosphere of this city—the sound of motorbikes passing by, the voices of vendors in the morning market, and the warm morning sunlight streaming into the room.

Looking out the window, I saw a mix of tall buildings and elegant colonial-style architecture amidst the hustle and bustle of the main streets filled with people and vehicles. The occasional honking of car horns became a constant soundtrack that never fades from the life of this city.

One of my favorite places to stroll after waking up early isVinh Long Bus Stationwhich is not far from Ho Chi Minh City. There, I witnessed the lively crowd traveling between provinces, the green Mai Linh taxis bustling around, and the local market atmosphere filled with vendors’ calls and the fragrant aroma of food, much like the morning markets I have visited in several other Vietnamese provinces before.

Speaking of food, Vietnam, especially Ho Chi Minh City, is a place where I, mr.hotsia, am passionate about the flavors and variety of street food. It’s not just about chicken biryani or grilled button squid that I mentioned inVietnamese Grilled Button Squid videobut also includes sticky rice with grilled pork, seafood dipping sauces, and Vietnamese desserts that blend flavors perfectly. Every time I go out for a walk, I often stop at a small restaurant in front of the hotel to order bánh mì or hot phở for a late morning meal. This distinct taste makes me feel like I’m strolling through a small morning market in Lạng Sơn Province where I once stayed (Lạng Sơn Province, Vietnam)

Sitting by the hotel window in Ho Chi Minh City also reminds me of the different atmosphere from other cities in Vietnam, such as the tranquility and greenery of Đà Lạt, which has Buddhist temples likeTrúc Lâm Templethat I have visited. It is another side of Vietnam that is peaceful and uniquely charming, while Ho Chi Minh City is full of vibrancy and hustle.

In the evening, I enjoy watching the sunset with soft music from the main street, the aroma of food carried by the breeze, and the sight of people bustling in the night market before returning to watch the lights from tall buildings start to sparkle, creating a feeling that this city truly never sleeps.

For travelers seeking a different experience from typical tourism, I recommend staying somewhere not in the heart of tourist areas but still able to see the real life of the city through a hotel window as I, mr.hotsia, did. Exploring the morning market, trying street food, and talking with locals will help you truly feel connected to Ho Chi Minh City.

Finally, sitting and watching Ho Chi Minh City through a hotel window is like opening a window to the life stories of the people here. Though it may seem chaotic, it carries warmth and a unique charm that I, mr.hotsia, never tire of returning to.
