TAY Home Stay SAPA Vietnam: Tai People Homestay in Sapa

When talking about Sapa, a small town located in northern Vietnam, many people think of the beauty of mist-covered mountains and the lifestyles of various hill tribes. This is the land where I, mr.hotsia, experienced true simplicity and warmth at a Tai people's homestay calledTAY Home Stay

Traveling to Sapa is not easy for travelers who do not use tour services because of winding roads through high mountains and unpredictable weather. But once here, what I encountered made me forget all fatigue immediately. Simple wooden houses lined up in the Tai village looked warm and lively, filled with the smiles of locals who welcomed me openly.

Life of the Tai People at the Homestay

I stayed at the homestay of Mr. Toi, a Tai man fluent in Vietnamese and the local language. His house is located in a small village about 15 minutes by motorbike from Sapa town. The atmosphere here is peaceful and natural, surrounded by rice fields and mountains.

In the morning, I woke up to the sound of roosters crowing and the aroma of freshly roasted coffee brewed by Mr. Toi. The coffee here is unlike any I have tasted in the city; its rich fragrance and smooth flavor made me ask for the recipe. Besides coffee, the breakfast served at the homestay is made from fresh local ingredients such as sticky rice with grilled pork and fresh vegetables picked from the backyard garden.

Learning Local Culture and Lifestyle

Staying with the Tai people is not just about resting but also an opportunity for me to learn about their long-rooted culture and lifestyle. I tried on the colorful traditional Tai costume with unique patterns and walked around the village with Mr. Toi, who shared stories about the community, beliefs, and traditions that are well preserved.

Additionally, I had the chance to cook local dishes with the homestay family, learning how to make Tai fermented pork and a special chili paste recipe, whose delicious taste left a lasting impression.

Experiencing Nature and Traveling in Sapa

From the homestay village, I traveled to Sapa market to experience the vibrant local life. This market is full of fresh produce, vegetables, fruits, and handicrafts sold by hill tribe people. I tried grilled pork and steamed sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves made with care by the shop owner. There were also handwoven fabrics and accessories that tell the unique story of the Tai people.

If you are interested in trekking, Sapa offers many beautiful trails such as the path to Silver Waterfall and Fansipan peak, which I have written about in an article on Lang Son province, known for its high mountains and stunning nature.Lang Son Province, VietnamAnother spot you might be interested in if you enjoy mountain tourism and local culture.

Travel and Accommodation Recommendations in Sapa

Traveling to Sapa can be done by bus or train from Hanoi. I recommend choosing homestay accommodations to truly experience community life, likeTAY Home Staywhere I stayed, which is affordable and run by very kind owners. There are other interesting accommodations in Sapa, but if you want a deep experience, I highly recommend this type of homestay.

If you have time or want to extend your northern Vietnam trip, I suggest visiting the beautiful and peaceful Buddhist temples in Da Lat city. You can read my review atBuddhist Temples in Da Lat Cityto add variety to your Vietnam trip.
