Vit Quay Vietnam Roast Duck is a must-try dish
When it comes to Vietnamese food, Mr.hotsia must give a thumbs up to one of the top dishes you shouldn’t miss: “Vit Quay” or Vietnamese roast duck. It has an enticing aroma that makes you stop walking and sit down immediately. I had the chance to taste Vit Quay in many parts of Vietnam, but what impressed me the most was the roast duck in Lang Son province, a small city near the Chinese border with more than 80% of its area covered by steep mountains.Lang Son ProvinceIt is a place that perfectly blends culinary cultures.
The roast duck here is not just crispy skin or tender meat like I’ve had elsewhere, but the fragrance of spices and a special sauce made with Vietnamese herbs combined with traditional charcoal grilling fills the entire shop with smoky aroma. Walking through the morning market in Lang Son city, the scent of Vit Quay floated on the breeze, making it impossible to resist stopping by a small shop crowded with many locals.
Vit Quay Eating Experience in Lang Son
The Vit Quay shop I recommend is a small, unrenowned place but full of home-style deliciousness. I ordered half a roast duck served with sticky rice and a sweet and sour dipping sauce that surprisingly complemented each other. The duck skin was crispy but not overly dry, the meat was juicy just right, and the aroma of spices deeply infused into the meat was truly authentic.
The recommended dish to try alongside is “Vietnamese Chicken Biryani,” made with jasmine rice mixed with authentic Vietnamese spices, which I also recommended in a previous article (seeVietnamese Chicken Biryani). This made the meal one of the most memorable from that trip.
Atmosphere and Lifestyle Around Vit Quay
Besides the outstanding taste, eating Vit Quay in Lang Son also offers a genuine experience of local life. The restaurants are usually located near fresh markets or roadside where people constantly pass by. I enjoyed watching the chefs grilling the duck with dedication and precision. Although it’s a small shop, it was clean and well-managed.
For tourists interested in trying Vit Quay in this province, I recommend coming in the morning or noon to see the bustling fresh market and freshly grilled duck shops. The aroma of roast duck will surely attract you to stop by.
