Welcome to Nam Định Province Welcome to Nam Định, Vietnam
Hello dear readers, this is mr.hotsia with true travel stories from Nam Định Province, Vietnam, where I experienced a different life and culture amidst the simple and warm atmosphere of the local people.
Nam Định Province is located in northern Vietnam, not far from the capital Hanoi, yet it retains the charm of rural life with traditional ways well preserved. Although it is not a major tourist city known to many, for mr.hotsia, Nam Định is an interesting corner of Vietnam that many might overlook.
Travel and Atmosphere in the City
I arrived in Nam Định early in the morning, taking about 2 hours by car from Hanoi. The roads along the way were lined with lush green rice fields and traditional Vietnamese houses. The city is not busy, perfect for those wanting to escape the hustle of big cities. You can see locals going out to farm, and vendors preparing goods in the lively morning market.
The morning market in Nam Định is very charming. It is my favorite spot to stroll because besides experiencing the real lifestyle of the locals, there are many local foods to try, such as Vietnamese-style baguette bread that is crispy outside and soft inside with a balanced flavor, or you can try tastingfresh seafood at Mukdahan morning marketwhich is also a good choice.
Local Lifestyle and Culture
Nam Định is famous for being a source of fresh and affordable seafood ingredients. I tried grilled button squid made fresh by the locals, with a sweet taste and smoky aroma that I really liked (videoVietnamese Grilled Button Squidis an example of the delicious food I recorded). There is also Vietnamese chicken biryani with authentic Vietnamese spices, which I stopped to taste at a small local restaurant. The flavor is unlike anywhere else (watch the videoVietnamese Chicken Biryanifor the full eating experience).
I recommend walking around the market area and the evening walking street. Here you will see the true character of Nam Định, with children's laughter, simple bargaining, and the aroma of food drifting in the breeze.
Tourist Attractions and Rest Stops
Nam Định may not have large landmarks like other cities, but it has many beautiful temples and shrines. I, mr.hotsia, recommend visiting temples with traditional Vietnamese architecture that are peaceful and impressive, close to Lạng Sơn Province which I wrote about in a previous article.Lạng Sơn Province, Vietnamwhich is another province with beautiful mountains and interesting local culture.
For accommodation in Nam Định, there are many affordable hotels and guesthouses. I stayed at a small guesthouse with a friendly owner who took great care, making me feel at home. If anyone is interested in comfortable lodging options in northern Vietnam, I recommend checking out my hotel recommendations in other cities such asHotel Recommendations in Việt Trì Cityto compare atmosphere and prices.
Travel Tips and Small Techniques
Traveling to Nam Định is convenient by both bus and taxi from Hanoi, but mr.hotsia wants to warn about communication with taxi drivers because some street or place names in Vietnam may be duplicated. I once experienced a similar situation atVinh Long Bus Stationwhere unclear communication could lead to being taken to the wrong place.
Additionally, I recommend preparing a Vietnamese 3G or 4G internet SIM for use during travel to facilitate communication and quick information search.Vietnam 3G Internet SIMthat I used was very helpful.
Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia
For me, Nam Định Province is like a small corner that admirably preserves the traditional Vietnam. Here you will find peace, a simple lifestyle, and delicious food that you can't find in big cities. I believe if you enjoy deep travel experiences, not just checking in for photos, Nam Định will be a destination that offers real experiences and unique memories.
