Boat Ride to Watch the Sunset on the Co Chien River, Vinh Long Province, Vietnam
If you have the chance to visit Vinh Long, located in the heart of the Mekong Delta, I, mr.hotsia, would like to recommend a special experience I truly enjoyed: taking a boat ride to watch the sunset on the Co Chien River, the main river flowing through Vinh Long city and a vital lifeline for the local way of life.
I strolled along the banks of the Co Chien River, observing the daily life of locals who use the river both as a transportation route and a food source. It started with enjoying famous fried meatballs by the river, their fragrant aroma filling the air. The sound of small boats gliding through the water creating gentle waves was like a soundtrack to this unique atmosphere. Then I took a short ferry ride to the opposite bank, which only took a few minutes and cost just a few baht (actually, if you don’t get off the boat, there’s no charge). This ferry ride opened a new perspective, allowing a close and authentic view of riverside life.
While in the middle of the Co Chien River, I witnessed the sun slowly setting below the horizon. The golden sky reflected on the water’s surface created a breathtaking mirror image. The surroundings were peaceful, with only the sounds of water lapping against the boat and birds flying by. This moment made me feel the simple tranquility and natural beauty that the Mekong Delta has to offer.
Vinh Long Province itself is more interesting than many realize. The city lies on the same sandbank as Rach Vinh and is west of Ben Tre Province, with the Co Chien River flowing through as its main artery. This makes the area fertile and full of diverse fruit orchards such as pomelo, rambutan, mangosteen, mango, and rare cocoa fruits that I saw sold at the Vinh Long market.
If you have the chance to visit, don’t miss walking through the Vinh Long market where fresh fruits are sold all day. The market offers fresh goods like fish, pork, chicken, and seafood, along with seasonal fruits that are very fresh and sweet. I, mr.hotsia, once visited the market at 2 PM and saw vendors arranging fruits on large boats docked near the market pier, which was fascinating. Anyone who loves fresh fruit should not miss this place.Read more about Vinh Long market
Taking a boat ride to watch the sunset on the Co Chien River reminded me of the simple riverside life in southern Vietnam, where everything is closely connected to nature and the river. This is an experience hard to find in big cities. I encourage everyone traveling to Vietnam to try this atmosphere at least once. I guarantee it will leave an unforgettable impression.
After watching the sunset by boat, I stopped to try Vietnamese noodles in Vinh Long, a famous local dish. The flavor was well-balanced with a fragrant broth made from pork bones and fresh herbs used in the recipe.Read about Vietnamese noodles in Vinh LongMore details available
