Coastal seine fishing is a seaside activity of local fishermen in Da Nang involving dragging a shallow water net. I stayed by the sea and saw them drag the nets three times: early morning and before dusk. Each net dragging session takes time.
The process starts by placing the net on a basket boat and releasing it into the sea in a curved shape. Two long ropes extend to the shore, then slowly pulled back to land over nearly an hour, depending on how far the net was placed. When the net reaches the shore, they press the net’s foot to gather and lift it from the sea. The excitement comes from the variety of fish caught: squid, ribbonfish, and many small fish. When the net is dragged ashore, Vietnamese buyers come to select and purchase the catch immediately.
The leftover catch is placed on plates and sold by the roadside for 40 baht each.
