The bus departed at 6:00 AM and arrived around 1:00 PM. The bus stopped for lunch near the Bavet-Moc Bai border crossing Cambodia/Vietnam.
I recommend using Mai Lin buses. I have taken them many times and was impressed every time. Some routes offer free meals, such as from Pakse to Kontum. For traveling from Phnom Penh like me, you might enter via Sa Kaeo and then take a shared taxi to Phnom Penh. If I remember correctly, it takes about 6 hours. Leaving Thailand in the morning means arriving in Phnom Penh by afternoon. Spend a day and night there, then depart for Ho Chi Minh in the morning. There are many bus departures from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh, taking about 5-6 hours.
I recommend leaving early and arriving in Ho Chi Minh in the afternoon. You can book tickets from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh at your hotel for about 10 USD. For traveling to Ho Chi Minh, you can also book budget AirAsia flights in advance, even months or years ahead, then visit Saigon. Ho Chi Minh's airport is not far; a taxi ride costs just a few baht, making it a convenient trip. Regarding taxis in Vietnam, a Vietnamese person recommended I take Mai Lin's green meter taxis.
