This place serves ethnic minority food, local dishes of the Central Highlands of Vietnam. It is located in a corner known only to Vietnamese locals. The top three local dishes of the Pleiku Gia Lai people are grilled chicken, bamboo sticky rice, and fish sauce fried chicken. Let's start with the highland style grilled chicken, freshly grilled, dry, fragrant, and very appetizing.
When served, they wear gloves and tear it apart colorfully. The aroma is enticing. It is eaten with hot bamboo sticky rice, a famous dish of this city. The grilled chicken is a bit pricey at 400 baht per chicken. I finished mine and ordered another but they were out. I had to order one more fish sauce fried chicken, also 400 baht. The local food here is truly delicious. The Vietnamese bamboo sticky rice here is famous; it is made plain and eaten with a simple dipping sauce of nuts and salt, nothing complicated.
The bamboo sticky rice is eaten with grilled chicken or other dishes, not plain or sticky rice. The atmosphere of this restaurant is that they build elevated houses, one house serves one group of customers. You can sit at tables or on the floor, whichever is convenient. An essential item is the local traditional Ruou Au, similar to that in Nakhon Phanom, made by the Phu Thai people from unhusked rice. They make it very well here with a perfect straw for drinking. Everyone drinks from their own straw. Ruou Au is fragrant, sweet, easy to drink, similar to rice wine, and pairs well with grilled chicken.
Fish sauce fried chicken is a perfect match. I highly recommend this restaurant, a must-visit. Also, I recommend affordable and good hotels in this city.
