The Vietnamese train I took was an air-conditioned seating carriage.
Departing for Hue from Vinh at noon 12:00 PM, arriving in Hue at night. On Vietnamese air-conditioned trains, some people openly smoke illegally. They might be passengers from other carriages who come to sit here. They look for empty seats because passengers board at different cities along the way. Vietnamese trains have a dining carriage where meals are prepared at set times: morning, noon, and evening. After cooking, staff come around to take orders and serve. I recommend eating at your seat during meal times to get hot food, which tastes better.
Don't expect the train food to be very delicious, just passable. For those very hungry or wanting to take photos, you can walk to the dining carriage. Food is sold there but it's pre-made and cold, so not tasty. The dining carriage sells beer and drinks.
