I stayed two nights in Son La before taking a morning bus that arrived in Yen Bai in the late afternoon.
The Yen Bai bus station is located in Yen Bai city, only 10 minutes from the train station. Upon arrival, you can stroll and take photos, resting near the train station. The atmosphere on the bus is very local, with no tourists at all. The bus is quite crowded; I even had to stand at times to give my seat to a pregnant woman (for 2-3 hours). The bus departs from Son La station in the morning and leaves on time. It stops for lunch along the way, but the food is not tasty—just pho with little meat. You have to endure it.
Eat while enjoying the unusual and beautiful scenery along the way, with Vietnamese houses alternating with rice fields.
