Siem Reap Bus Station: Gateway to Travel and Local Life in Cambodia

Hello, I’m mr.hotsia. Today, I’ll take you to experience the real atmosphere atSiem Reap Bus StationA city full of history and the simple lifestyle of Cambodia. Traveling from here is one of the main routes for tourists who want to continue to the capital Phnom Penh or return to Siem Reap to explore Angkor Wat and other interesting places.

The first time I arrived at Siem Reap Bus Station, I didn’t plan much in advance. I just bought a van ticket from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh but was taken to change vehicles at this station first. The van turned into a regular bus, but that didn’t reduce the fun of the journey at all.

Atmosphere and Travel from the Bus Station

The bus departs from the station at 12:30 PM and takes about 6 hours to reach Phnom Penh, including a 30-minute meal break at a rest stop along the way. It was a great opportunity for me to experience the authentic lifestyle of the Cambodian people on the route running along the northern side of Tonle Sap, passing Kampong Thom and Kampong Cham provinces.

I recommend asking for a seat on the left side of the bus if you depart in the afternoon because the sun isn’t too hot and the scenery on that side is beautiful. You can see traditional Cambodian houses and old carts passing by occasionally, making you feel like you’re traveling back in time. This simple yet charming lifestyle is what I loved most about this trip.

Siem Reap Bus Station: Comfort and Services

The bus station here isn’t as large as those in big Thai cities but is orderly, and the staff are friendly and smiling. When you arrive in Siem Reap, if you need accommodation, I recommend checking outShadow Angkor guest housewhere I have stayed before. The service is excellent, convenient for travel, and close to the market and bus station.

Or if you want budget-friendly accommodation that’s convenient for public transport, I also recommendReaksmey Chanreas HotelThis hotel is located near the Capital bus queue, offers cool air conditioning and WIFI service at a great value.

Connecting Travel from Poipet to Siem Reap

For friends planning to travel from Thailand to Cambodia, I have already written a guide on the routeTraveling from Rong Kluea Poipet to Siem Reapwhich is the most convenient and popular route. Take a bus from Bangkok to Rong Kluea Market, then cross the border at Poipet checkpoint, and continue by bus to Siem Reap. It’s convenient and doesn’t take long.

Life in Siem Reap: More Than Just a Transit Point

Siem Reap is not only a travel connection point but also a city full of color and interesting lifestyles. I often spend time after getting off the bus here walking around the local market, trying delicious and accessible street food. I must say the people here are friendly and warmly welcome tourists like me.

If you enjoy nightlife, Siem Reap has two main areas I recommend experiencing.Nightlife in Siem ReapIt’s a hub of bars, restaurants, and pubs that are safe and tourist-friendly. Or if you want to experience the authentic Cambodian nightlife, you can hire a tuk-tuk to visit the areas popular with locals.

Must-Visit Destination: Angkor Wat

And of course, my visits to Siem Reap never missAngkor WatThe magnificent World Heritage site that’s just within reach. Angkor Wat is easy to get to and has an amazing history. I enjoy renting a bicycle to explore the ruins and the lifestyle of the surrounding community, which is a deep and very different experience from typical package tours.

Summary

Siem Reap Bus Station is not just a place to change buses or a transit point but a place where I, mr.hotsia, learned and absorbed the true lifestyle of the Cambodian people. It’s full of stories and warmth from the locals and serves as a gateway to adventures in Siem Reap city and the beautiful Angkor Wat. If you have a chance to visit Cambodia, don’t forget to stop by this bus station. I guarantee you’ll have a unique experience.
