Guesthouse Accommodation in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia

If you have followed my travels, mr.hotsia, you might know that Prey Veng Province in Cambodia is a small, peaceful town with its own unique charm. Coming here is not like visiting big cities with many hotels; instead, there are only a few guesthouses and small hotels scattered around to choose from. I had the chance to explore and actually stay here, gaining experiences I want to share with you.

In downtown Prey Veng, I found only a few hotels actually operating. The most noticeable is Mittapheap Hotel (pronounced Mittapheap), located next to a gas station and the bus stop for direct routes to Phnom Penh. This hotel is not just accommodation but also the most popular restaurant in town. Its highlight is the central location, making it easy to walk around, and importantly, no need to travel far to catch a bus back to Phnom Penh since the bus passes right in front of the hotel.

Before deciding to stay here, I explored other hotels in town, such as Navy Hotel near Ta Klay Lake Market. This place suits travelers with private vehicles because it is quite far and tiring to walk from there to downtown. Most staff there speak less English than at Mittapheap, and the atmosphere felt a bit quiet for me, mr.hotsia, who prefers lively places and convenient travel. So I chose Mittapheap Hotel as my main accommodation.

Price was another reason I chose to stay here. Mittapheap Hotel charges about just over 300 baht per night, which is very cheap compared to what you get: air conditioning, hot water, and full Wi-Fi. In many hotels I checked, some advertised low prices but offered rooms without air conditioning or hot water, charging extra for these. Mittapheap includes everything in this price, making staying in a small town like Prey Veng much more comfortable.

Lifestyle and Atmosphere in Downtown Prey Veng

Prey Veng Province remains a rural area preserving the traditional lifestyle of Cambodians clearly. Here, horse-drawn carts and ox carts share the roads with regular vehicles. The town is quiet but full of local color with lively small markets in the morning and evening. I traveled here by van from Svay Rieng Province, then rented a motorbike to continue into downtown Prey Veng, about 30 kilometers away. It didn’t take long and was affordable.

Restaurants and Markets in Prey Veng

Regarding food in Prey Veng, if you ask me, mr.hotsia, it’s quite a challenge because there are very few restaurants in town. I walked almost everywhere but hardly found any typical rice-and-curry shops or general eateries like in other towns I’ve visited. Fortunately, the restaurant at Mittapheap Hotel is the top one in town. I tried it and found the local flavors really excellent.

I also stopped by Navy Hotel near Ta Klay Lake Market. This place offers local dishes and a very traditional atmosphere. There’s also a small grilled pork stall selling hot French bread served with seasoned papaya salad and local sausages. Although the sausages were a bit dark, the taste matched the local eating style I really enjoyed.

If you want to truly understand the lifestyle and culture of Prey Veng people, I recommend ordering local dishes as the locals do. For more on food in this province, seeRecommended Food in Prey Veng Provincewhich I have shared before.

Location and Convenience of Staying at Mittapheap Hotel

What I, mr.hotsia, like most about Mittapheap Hotel is its location. It is next to a gas station and the bus queue to Phnom Penh, making it very convenient for travelers who want to continue to other cities without wasting time traveling to distant bus stops. Also, across the hotel are local food stalls and shops where you can easily buy food and daily necessities.

Although it is a budget hotel, it offers air conditioning, hot water, and Wi-Fi that works well. This is a big plus for travelers seeking comfort at an affordable price.

Summary of My Stay and Travel Experience in Prey Veng with mr.hotsia

As a traveler who enjoys exploring real lifestyles, I think staying at Mittapheap Hotel in Prey Veng Province is very suitable. Not only is the price affordable, but you also get to experience the authentic town atmosphere and convenient travel without going far to catch a bus back to Phnom Penh.

Although Prey Veng is a small town without the development of big cities, what I like is its simplicity and friendliness of the people, as well as the traditional lifestyle still clearly visible. Eating local food at Mittapheap or small eateries around town, seeing the markets and daily life of locals, is a valuable experience that makes this trip unique.

If you want to experience a quiet small town full of charm and stay somewhere convenient for travel and local food tasting, I, mr.hotsia, recommend you try coming here once. You will see that Cambodia still has many small hidden gems to explore.
