From what I observed, many people in Sriso Phon speak Thai. The restaurants I visited played Thai TV and had staff who spoke Thai as well. Many locals were born in Thailand. The food sold is similar to Thai dishes. It is well known that this area was once part of Thailand's Phibunsongkhram province before becoming French territory during King Rama V's reign.
I think this partly explains why the food culture of Sriso Phon resembles ours. At night, people in Sriso Phon enjoy eating plain rice porridge or 'Bobor' with gently grilled snakehead fish. They set up roadside stalls selling these dishes along with beer. In the city, there are nightclubs inside hotels downtown, and about 3 kilometers outside the city, there are karaoke bars. For dinner, I ate at a local restaurant in town where many people were dining. (Click the coordinates above the photo to view the map)
For breakfast, I ate at a stall near the morning market where fried chicken rice was sold, followed by sipping tea served in an unusual way—served with the cup upside down. One recommended restaurant by the Sriso Phon locals that I didn't try is called Red Chili, located in the city center.
