Alternatively, you can hire a taxi from Siem Reap to Tbeng Meanchey, the capital of Preah Vihear. The price quoted is about 100 USD or approximately 3,000 Baht, but the actual price I paid was 50 USD or 1,500 Baht. This price includes a stop to visit Koh Ker, the Cambodian pyramid. Another option I haven't recommended before is renting a car with a driver from the Poipet border. The price is for a full day or possibly several days if you come in a group of 4-5 people.
With this car rental, you stay in various towns but must cover the driver's accommodation and meals, and fuel costs yourself. Fuel prices in Cambodia are not expensive. I think if the rental price is about 1,500 Baht or 50 USD per day, and you go with 5 people, it’s about 300 Baht per person per day plus fuel, accommodation, and food for the driver, which would not exceed 600 Baht per person per day. I think it’s worth it. If you rent this way, the driver can take you to Siem Reap, Angkor Wat, Koh Ker, Preah Vihear, and Stung Treng. Give it a try.
The method I used to travel to Phnom Tbeng Meanchey city, Preah Vihear Province (Preah Vihear) was taking a bus from Siem Reap to Kampong Thom Province, then transferring to a bus from Kampong Thom to Phnom Tbeng Meanchey city, Preah Vihear Province (Preah Vihear). The bus I took came from Phnom Penh, passing through Kampong Thom to this city. Not many tourists use this method. mr.hotsia recommends hotels in Preah Vihear.
