Although the city has a lake nearby, there are no lake-view accommodations as I expected. Hotels in Svay Rieng are located deeper in the city. From what I saw, there is one hotel and three guesthouses nearby, all within walking distance. The lake is also not far. Most accommodations in Svay Rieng Province are near the Bavet checkpoint.
It is also a casino with good hotel accommodations. Most people don’t usually visit the city like I do. Svay Rieng city looks quiet but it is the kind of place I, Mr.Hotsia, like. I got to fully experience their culture. The hotel where Mr.Hotsia stayed is Tonlay Waiko Hotel. There is no WiFi, but the room meets standards, with cold air conditioning, karaoke, and a restaurant downstairs. The restaurant downstairs also has a singer.
A bit pricey, but if you want an authentic local experience, you shouldn’t miss chilling at this place. Not all hotels in Svay Rieng have WiFi, so ask first. The hotel in town that definitely has WiFi, which I planned to stay at but didn’t, is SAMAKI Guesthouse located right in the city center. The owner is very friendly and speaks a little Thai. If you come to Svay Rieng, try staying here for 10 USD per night with air conditioning. Across the street, there are two more guesthouses but they seem to have no WiFi. Mr.Hotsia August 2012.
