Harbin Snow China: Travel, Eat, and Taste Deliciousness in the Ultimate Cold City
Hello, I’m mr.hotsia. Today, I will take you to experience the freezing cold in Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang Province in northern China. This place is not only extremely cold but also full of charm with local food and a lively pedestrian street atmosphere that you will fall in love with.
Speaking of Harbin, I must say I traveled during the heavy winter season. Snow covered the entire city, making it feel like stepping into a real snow fairy tale. Walking along the streets here, you can clearly sense the northern Chinese vibe, which is very different from southern cities. What impressed me the most was the diverse and delicious street food that made me stop eating many times.
Harbin Street Food: Delicious Treats That mr.hotsia Says You Must Not Miss
In Harbin, you will find authentic northern Chinese dishes with bold flavors and appetizing aromas. Especially the fresh noodles I tasted at a night market, which were chewy and soft with a rich, spicy broth that perfectly suits Thai taste buds like mine. There is also Chinese-style fried chicken at Zhengxin Chicken Steak or 正新鸡排 (Zhèngxīn jī pái) that I tried. It was crispy outside, tender inside, with a perfectly balanced salty and sweet flavor. Paired with their special sauce, it was absolutely delightful.Watch the video of eating chicken at this restaurant here
Harbin Night Market is a gathering spot for food lovers. It is filled with small eateries tucked into alleys. Wherever I walked, I smelled the aroma of various foods including grilled chicken, grilled pork, and a must-try dish called Jiao Hua Ji or Beggar's Chicken, which is wrapped in banana or bamboo leaves and baked until the chicken meat is tender and melts in your mouth.Click to see the Beggar's Chicken recipeI even tried making it myself. It was a very memorable experience.
Strolling in Snowy Harbin: Experience Northern Chinese Lifestyle and Culture
Besides food, walking around Harbin in winter is truly enjoyable. I visited the world-famous snow sculpture exhibition, which was intricately and magnificently crafted, making me feel like I stepped into a fantasy world full of snow and sparkling lights.
While walking along the main streets, I met Nong Kaem, a Harbin local girl I previously wrote about inThe Story of Nong Kaem, Harbin, ChinaandAnother Chapter of Nong Kaemwhich helped me understand the lifestyle and culture here better. Nong Kaem also took me to taste delicious noodles and street food hidden in various alleys.Including videos of the atmosphere and food in Harbinthat I filmed myself.
Impressions from mr.hotsia: Harbin Has More Than Just Snow, It Has Deliciousness Waiting to Be Discovered
In short, Harbin is a city perfect for lovers of both cold weather and delicious food. Walking in the snowy atmosphere while tasting unique local dishes was a truly fulfilling experience for my journey. For anyone wanting to try something new, I recommend visiting Harbin at least once in your life. You will surely fall in love with it just like me, mr.hotsia.
