Eating Wuhan Fried Chicken with perspectives from mr.hotsia

Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, where the Yangtze River flows wide, about 2 kilometers across, is a city I, mr.hotsia, have had the chance to visit many times. Every time, one thing I never miss is tasting Wuhan-style fried chicken, which is completely different from the fried chicken I've had back home.

Before talking about fried chicken, I want you to imagine the atmosphere by the Yangtze River at night, where I oncetook a boat cruise to admire the beauty along the Yangtze Riveralong with the cool breeze passing by. The river here is five times wider than the Chao Phraya River in Thailand. This feeling makes traveling in Wuhan even more charming, and finding a piece of fried chicken to pair with this atmosphere is a delight that mr.hotsia highly recommends.

Wuhan fried chicken is not just ordinary fried food

Wuhan fried chicken has a unique character you should not overlook, especially fried chicken from famous places likeDicos Restaurant Wuhanor Zhengxin Chicken Steak (正新鸡排), which I have tried myself. Their fried chicken uses large, full pieces of chicken marinated with rich Chinese spices before frying to a crispy outside and tender inside. The flavor is bold, favored by Chinese people, with a fragrant aroma of spices and a light touch of dried chili that adds just the right amount of heat.

What sets it apart from regular fried chicken is its crispiness without being greasy, the substantial size of the chicken pieces, and importantly, the affordable price. It’s perfect for strolling and snacking along the pedestrian streets in the western downtown area of Wuhan, which is my favorite area to stay because it’s convenient for travel and full of restaurants and night markets.Read more about recommended hotels in Wuhanto prepare for a full travel experience

Atmosphere of streets and markets not to be missed

In this area, you will see the authentic lifestyle of Wuhan locals, lining up to buy fried chicken from famous shops, sometimes waiting quite a while but worth it for the delicious taste. Besides fried chicken, there are also delicious rice noodle dishes, local foods, and many snacks perfect for casual tasting while strolling.

I, mr.hotsia, once ordered a large piece of fried chicken and walked to eat it by the Yangtze River at night while waiting for the ferry, an ancient mode of transport for the locals. The feeling of crispy outside and tender inside chicken, along with the aroma of Chinese spices in the air, made every step in Wuhan charming and unforgettable, making me want to return again.

Besides fried chicken, local dishes you must try

If you prefer Chinese food beyond fried chicken, Wuhan also offers signature dishes such asbraised pork ricewhich is very delicious, or you can try Chinese-style pork hotpot buffets.Wuhan foodAt various restaurants, these are great options for big eaters like me. Also, at Wuhan airport, there are Chinese fast food restaurants where I recommend trying instant noodles to have a quick snack before your flight back to Thailand.Eating instant noodles at Wuhan airportbecause food prices at the airport are quite high and options are limited.

Transportation and accommodation in Wuhan

For getting around Wuhan, using the subway that runs under the Yangtze River is very convenient and fast. I, mr.hotsia, often use this method to reach various places within the city. There is also a bridge crossing the river used by both trains and cars, which is a source of pride for the Chinese, built over 50 years ago.Read more about Wuhan cityto understand the context and transportation in this city

If you have time to stay in Wuhan, I recommend choosing hotels on the west side of the city because they are close to food spots and convenient transportation, just like where I stayed atHome in hotelswhich is not far from Wuhan high-speed train station. Staying in this area will help you fully enjoy Wuhan fried chicken and local food before continuing your journey.

Summary of the Wuhan fried chicken experience with mr.hotsia

For me, eating fried chicken in Wuhan is not just about food; it’s an experience of travel, experiencing local life, and the grand atmosphere by the Yangtze River. Walking in the night market filled with laughter and the aroma of food is something I, mr.hotsia, want to recommend everyone to try at least once.

If you are planning to travel to China and have a chance to stop by Wuhan, don’t forget to try Wuhan fried chicken at Zhengxin Chicken Steak or other famous shops in the city. It will surely add a unique flavor to your trip!
