Mumbai 4/15: Indian Fried Egg, a flavor unlike the fried eggs we know at home
When talking about Mumbai, a vibrant city with diverse cultures, many people probably think of the crowded streets, the sounds and smells of street food drifting from afar. But for mr.hotsia, one thing that impressed me and I want to share is the “Indian Fried Egg” found in Mumbai, which is nothing like the fried eggs we are familiar with in Thailand.
That day I walked through a small alley in the large seaside fish market area of Mumbai. The large seaside fish market area of MumbaiIt is a place full of people and the lively sounds of vendors. I came across a small shop selling simple Indian breakfast. What caught my interest was the fried egg menu, which looked and tasted very different from the fried eggs back home.
The Indian fried egg here is cooked in a flat iron pan with very hot oil until the egg white becomes crispy and thin like a sheet, while the yolk remains soft and runny. The flavor infused with spices soaking into the fried egg gives a full Indian experience. I even asked the shop owner what they put in it because the aroma of spices like turmeric and red chili powder adds spiciness and color to this fried egg dish.
I ordered the Indian fried egg to eat with naan bread at a nearby shop. You know, dipping the hot fried egg with soft bread like this turns into an easy and delicious breakfast that deserves a thumbs up. Just like I once tried fromBread dipped in spicy curry, Indian food in Mumbaiwhich I have shared before.
Lifestyle and Atmosphere Around Indian Fried Egg
Eating fried eggs in Mumbai is not just about taste but also an experience of the local lifestyle. I saw a variety of people from office workers, locals, to market vendors sitting and eating fried eggs while sipping Masala Chai tea at small roadside shops. Some talked loudly, some quietly stared at the busy street.
If you enjoy street food like me, you will find that this small Indian fried egg dish surprisingly fuels you for a long day in Mumbai. I recommend taking a morning walk in that area and stopping by these shops to try Indian fried eggs. I guarantee you will see a new perspective on Indian breakfast like no other.
