Mr.Hotsia stayed 6 nights here while traveling Bali independently. On day 5, writing from NAKULA FAMILIAR Inn in Denpasar.

I will recommend accommodations in Bali for first-time visitors to help visualize and choose the right stay for an enjoyable trip like Mr.Hotsia. Foreign tourists prefer the KUTA area, about 5 km from the airport. Kuta has beautiful sandy beaches and strong winds, popular for surfing. This area is similar to Patong Beach in Phuket with many restaurants, hotels, and accommodations starting from just a few hundred baht per night.

For sea lovers, stay around Kuta. Kuta has two parts: North and South. South Kuta has the famous Uluwatu Temple, popular among Thai tourists but quite far requiring a car ride. I didn’t stay there but have options. Click here to see all accommodation prices in Kuta. Beautiful beaches and affordable stays. Febri's Hotel & Spa looks luxurious but costs just over 1,000 baht per night, close to Kuta Beach. There are even options around 300 baht.

There are many hotel options in Bali sorted by price above. You can book this hotel here. Mr.Hotsia recommends staying in Ubud, a city for those who don’t prefer the beach. Ubud is not by the sea but offers beautiful Balinese-style accommodations. The city is popular with tourists and convenient for travel. Bicycle rental costs about 70 baht per day, but traffic is heavy so I don’t recommend cycling much. The area is hilly, so a geared bike is better.

I suggest staying near Hanuman Street where there are more foreigners and it’s lively at night. I stayed a bit far but peaceful and beautiful at SULENDRA Bungalow. I have business cards and maps below. Some rooms can be damp but otherwise okay. (Book hotels in Bali) Another area I stayed 4 nights is Denpasar city center, about 10 km from Kuta. Denpasar city has fewer tourists.

If you like local life, eating, staying in Balinese homes, walking around, and enjoying delicious satay like Mr.Hotsia, I recommend staying in this area. The people are friendly and smiling. There are lively 24-hour markets, flower markets, and morning fresh markets. Accommodation in Denpasar is affordable. Read about Denpasar accommodations here. For Bali travel by car, staying in central Ubud is convenient for sea access, but for beach focus, stay near Kuta.

If you want to explore local homes and markets for something different, stay in Denpasar like me. Traveling Bali in May is hot with little rain, though some evenings may have showers. Don’t forget raincoats. To see all accommodations in Bali from budget to 2-5 star hotels and guesthouses, click here. Mr.Hotsia recommends Nakula Familiar Inn in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.

This is the only hotel recommended by Lonely Planet. I stayed here on my 4th night. The room costs 500 baht per night, suitable for two people or three with an extra bed. It feels like home with very friendly owners and staff who even teach language and take care of everything. Contact at http://www.nakulafamiliarinn.com. Free WiFi is available. I’m writing this accommodation guide from this hotel.

I have searched for accommodation in Denpasar at over 5 places near the bus station to Java. Some hotels cost 200 baht per night but have squat toilets and combined bathing and washing facilities, which I avoid unless necessary. I returned to Nakula Familiar Inn, which never disappointed me. Another hotel nearby is Adi Yasa, about 50 meters away, but it seemed damper so I didn’t stay there.

I have the hotel address and contact below with photos. There are many other decent hotels in Denpasar but more expensive than where I stayed. For your first night in Denpasar, I recommend booking a hotel via Agoda to secure your stay. Book Denpasar hotels here. Recommended affordable and good hotels in Ubud (BUDD inexpensive hotels) where Mr.Hotsia stayed.

This hotel is a bit far from the old Ubud Palace and market but walkable. Cycling is just right. Accommodation costs about 500 baht per night in Ubud. Most hotels in Ubud don’t have air conditioning because the weather is mild. The owner manages a few rooms personally. I like this style of stay. See business cards and maps below.
