Oil Massage in Solo City, Surakarta: A spa experience you must try when visiting Indonesia

If you follow my work, mr.hotsia, you know I like to try local oil massages or spas in every city I visit. Solo city, also known by many as Surakarta (Surakarta), is no exception. This place is famous for its unique traditional massage style, which I want to share based on my real experience.

Solo city is located in Central Java province of Indonesia. It is a peaceful city full of ancient culture, just likeSolo Sultan Palacewhich is a popular tourist attraction. I stayed at ISTANA Griya 2 hotel, which is not far from the palace and located in a safe area, very convenient for travelers wanting to explore the city both day and night.

Speaking of Solo's traditional oil massage, the technique uses “Jev Khao,” a special massage oil whose exact name I can't recall. This oil has a mild fragrant scent that helps relaxation and absorbs well into the skin. Most massage shops in Solo are located in large hotels, clean, and of high standards. I chose a regular spa with a reasonable price, about 120,000 rupiah per hour, roughly 360 baht.

My massage experience started with soaking my feet in warm salt water to relax and cleanse before the actual massage. Then I entered a clean massage room with a pleasant atmosphere and soft background music that truly created relaxation. The Indonesian female massage therapist in Surakarta was very professional. She began with foot, leg, back, and arm massage, then flipped me to relax leg muscles and finished with a head massage. This traditional Solo massage style was truly satisfying and deeply relaxing.

For women visiting Solo, I recommend trying the spa here. The city is famous for a skin scrubbing method calledMandi Lulurwhich is an ancient exfoliation technique that helps make the skin smooth and bright. It’s another experience I highly recommend. Lifestyle and Attractions of Solo City

After the massage, I had the chance to stroll around Solo city again and found it to be peaceful and very tourist-friendly. Traveling within the city is convenient because a train passes through, connecting to nearby Yogyakarta, which takes only about 1 hour. On the Sunday I was there, I saw a very impressive activity. The main street in the city was closed to allow people to exercise and engage in warm community activities like walking, cycling, and walking dogs. It was a community scene I really liked and felt showed genuine care for the quality of life here. Food and Souvenirs from Solo

Speaking of travel, it’s impossible not to mention food. Solo has local dishes I really like, such as delicious chicken satay and spicy oxtail soup, both close to my accommodation. Also, the market and pedestrian street in front of the Sultan’s palace offer quality batik fabrics at nice prices, perfect for souvenirs to bring home for family and friends.

If you like Indonesian sweets, I recommend trying “Rujak,” a mixed fruit with sweet and spicy sauce, which is another local dessert not to be missed. You can read the full story about Rujak atRujak Mixed Fruit with Sweet and Spicy Sauce.

Summary of Oil Massage and Solo City Travel Experience by mr.hotsia

For me, trying the traditional oil massage in Solo helped me understand the culture and lifestyle of the people here better. The traditional massage with Jev Khao oil is not just muscle relaxation but also a touch of care and delicacy from the Solo people conveyed through the hands of the massage therapist. I can say if anyone visits Surakarta, they must find time for an hour or two to enjoy this massage.

Besides massage, this city is full of interesting culture, delicious food, and an atmosphere that made me feel comfortable walking around. It’s perfect for those wanting to escape the hustle of big cities and experience authentic Indonesia.

If you want to experience it like me, mr.hotsia, I recommend visitingSolo City, Surakartaand you will surely fall in love with this city like I did. Great travel, great massage, you won’t be disappointed!
