hotsiakids and Aunt Won from Lao Saji Kitchen's first trip to Yaowarat and ICONSIAM

Hello, I am mr.hotsia. I had the chance to join a special trip with the hotsiakids group and Aunt Won from Lao Saji Kitchen, who took us to experience the atmosphere of Yaowarat and ICONSIAM for the first time. I must say this trip was full of fun, delicious food, and truly fascinating urban life scenes.

In my view, mr.hotsia, Yaowarat is not just a district full of gold shops or Chinese food, but also a street that perfectly blends Chinese and Thai cultures. If anyone has watched the videohotsiakids and Aunt Won from Lao Saji Kitchen visit Yaowarat and ICONSIAM for the first timeyou will clearly see that this trip focused on eating and tasting along the way, from street food stalls, a braised pork noodle shop with such rich broth that we had to ask for more, to desserts topped with lotus seeds and red beans, which are rare to find nowadays.

One of the impressions I, mr.hotsia, want to share is walking around the Yaowarat market, which becomes especially lively in the evening. Neon lights brighten the entire street, the lively chatter of vendors and the aroma of spices fill the air, making us feel like we’ve stepped into another world full of color and vibrancy.

From Yaowarat to ICONSIAM: A hub of modernity and culture

After tasting delicious local food in Yaowarat, we continued to ICONSIAM, a magnificent shopping center that perfectly blends modernity with the essence of Thai culture. ICONSIAM is not just a shopping destination but also a place where you can see folk art and cultural exhibitions from various regions of Thailand, as well as a food zone gathering signature dishes from all over the country in one place.

On the day mr.hotsia visited, we tried dishes from Aunt Won’s Lao Saji Kitchen, which offers authentic, boldly flavored Lao home-style food. The flavors were as intense and satisfying as the originals in Laos, especially the Lao papaya salad and grilled chicken marinated with spices, served with hot fragrant sticky rice. It felt like dining by the Mekong River in Muang Hongsa, Laos.

Connecting the Lao atmosphere in the big city

Although this trip was in Bangkok, the Lao spirit permeated every place we visited, whether in the taste of the food or the atmosphere of the restaurant that Aunt Won carefully recreated to resemble the real experience in Laos. For those who want to fully immerse in the Lao atmosphere, I, mr.hotsia, recommend checking outBoat trip in Laos 8: Warm and hearty meals with locals at Ban Tha Suang, Muang Hongsa, Xayaburiwhich I have written about, showing the warm and joyful experience of eating home-style meals.

Additionally, if you want to explore Lao cuisine more deeply, I recommendBoat trip in Laos 14: Delicious beyond words - Lao woman preparing wild herb salad with Mekong River fish currywhich is another experience that impressed me, mr.hotsia, greatly with the authentic flavors and lifestyle of the Lao people.

Travel and real experiences from the field

For me, mr.hotsia, this trip was not just about eating and going home, but a journey to see the lifestyle of city dwellers who still preserve their culture in an interesting way. Walking around Yaowarat and ICONSIAM reminded me of visiting the Khamouk market in Laos before,Khamouk Lao marketwhich is full of fresh ingredients and traditional foods that still carry the natural essence.

Every time I, mr.hotsia, experience food and atmosphere like this, it feels like going back to the time I traveled to Laos, keeping those memories and feelings vivid and alive.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a trip that offers more than the usual tourism, this is the answer. Both Yaowarat and ICONSIAM are not only about food but are full of cultural stories and feelings conveyed by the original people like Aunt Won’s Lao Saji Kitchen and the hotsiakids group, who took me, mr.hotsia, to discover fun and warmth in this big city.
