Let's travel to Laos following mr.hotsia to the land of the Mekong River basin
When talking about a neighboring country full of raw charm that still preserves a simple lifestyle and a chill atmosphere, mr.hotsia must say “Laos” is one destination you absolutely must not miss. This trip wasn’t a typical tour but a deeper experience of Laos. As I have shared before inMekong Boat Trip Laos 1: Abandoning the Boat - An Adventure into the Deep Mekong Forestwhere every breath is a true life adventure.
This time mr.hotsia traveled to a province which I prefer not to name so readers can feel like they are traveling spontaneously and discover the beauty of Laos beyond words. Starting with a challenging journey by car and boat, I truly felt the naturalness and hardships of local life here, yet it was filled with genuine smiles and friendliness.
Life by the Mekong River and a Local Market Off the Map
One of the most memorable experiences for mr.hotsia was visiting a local market calledKhamuk Market Deep in the Forest by the Mekong RiverHere, there were not only vegetables, fruits, or ordinary goods but also rare local dishes such as wild boar stir-fried with river fish herbs and sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves so delicious I had to ask for more. Seeing locals selling goods and chatting warmly made me truly understand the meaning of “Slow Life.”
Additionally, mr.hotsia tasted authentic Lao food like spicy yet balanced Tam Lao, finished with hot sticky rice paired with fragrant grilled chicken just like in the video.Grilled Chicken, Tam Lao, Sticky Rice, Ko SametThough the location differs, the taste and feeling are very similar.
Nature and Adventure in Central Laos
What makes Laos special and beloved by mr.hotsia is its rich nature and tranquility not found in big cities. Cruising the Mekong River, the lifeline of Lao people, made me feel like traveling back in time to experience a simpler yet deeper way of life. On this route, I witnessed fishing with large fish traps deep in the forest of Hongsa city, an exciting and thrilling experience that kept me on edge, as I shared inMekong Boat Trip Laos 3: Edge-of-Your-Seat Fishing with Large Fish Traps in the Deep Mekong Forest of Hongsa
I also had the chance to stay with locals in Hongsa, sitting around sharing meals and exchanging cultures, a warm moment that made me deeply appreciate Lao hospitality. Watch the videoWarm and Full: Sharing a Meal with Lao People at Ban Tha Suang, Hongsa City, Xayaburito soak up this wonderful atmosphere.
Travel Tips and Advice from mr.hotsia
For anyone planning to travel to Laos not just passing through but wanting a serious journey like mine, I recommend preparing for somewhat difficult travel conditions because some roads are still inconvenient. But this is exchanged for beautiful natural scenery and peace not found in big cities, along with the authentic lifestyle of Lao people.
Don’t forget to prepare your heart and camera because every step holds stories and beautiful scenes—from local markets with interesting native products, eating fresh ingredients, to warm conversations with people who feel like family.
