Around Muang Sing, there are many ethnic villages. Muang Sing has a large population of Tai Lue and Tai Dam people. The morning market in Muang Sing is very interesting. Ethnic people come dressed in their traditional costumes to buy and sell goods. The most striking costumes I saw were those of the Tai Dam. There are many other tribes, but I am not familiar with them. The Muang Sing morning market is very fascinating and should not be missed. Another thing I was impressed by was the hill tribe people selling local liquors such as white liquor, wild liquor, and corn liquor for about 20 baht per small bottle, roughly the size of a water bottle.
I tried to get into the atmosphere by sitting and tasting the liquor right there by the roadside, then bought another bottle to take back, but I didn’t drink it myself. I gave it to a pho shop in town because I don’t drink much anymore due to health reasons. I just like to sip a little. The market I mentioned is the outer part of the morning market that opens from early dawn until late morning. Inside, there are shops selling fermented rice snacks, grilled chicken, dried goods, and various dishes.
