Riding a trishaw across the border at Tachileik, a Myanmar border town you must try

I, mr.hotsia, recently had the opportunity to ride a trishaw around Tachileik, a border town in Myanmar, which is right next to Chiang Rai in Thailand. I must say it was an exciting experience that showed me the lifestyle of the Myanmar people, very different from what I've seen in big cities. Imagine riding a small motorized trishaw slowly climbing narrow roads, passing local markets and riverside communities along the Salween River. This place has a simple charm full of vibrant colors and memorable stories.

The trishaw I rode is a popular mode of transport among the people of Tachileik. It felt like stepping back in time to an era when travel was less hectic and we had time to truly notice the details around us. The trishaw slowly passed through fresh markets filled with fresh and dried goods and local fruits. The aroma of spices and local food filled the air all along the way.

If you travel here, I recommend stopping to stroll around the Tachileik market, which is not far from the trishaw boarding point. Here you will see lively scenes of people buying and selling, especially the local popular snack called "Tang Taek". If you want to know how delicious it is, check out the story.Parents taking kids on a holiday, buying Tang Taek snacks at Tachileik, Wat Phra Chao RakaengAs I have written before

Besides the market, the trishaw route also takes us to visit the peaceful and shady Wat Phra Chao Rakaeng. Besides the pleasant atmosphere, the area is filled with flying pigeons. I, mr.hotsia, really like this kind of atmosphere. It makes me feel like escaping the hustle and truly experiencing tranquility. The Charm of Tachileik Experienced by Trishaw

Along the trishaw route in Tachileik, I found that the life of the people here still goes on simply. From small shops, people traveling, to the gas station which seems to be an important local stop. I stopped by the Thachilak gas station. The atmosphere here is similar to rural gas stations in Thailand but full of Myanmar character. Riding a trishaw in this town allowed me to see a lifestyle clearly different from big cities like Yangon or Mandalay. Here, the traditional and friendly border community spirit remains. As the trishaw passed narrow streets, I saw locals chatting under trees, children playing along the road, and the simple laughter of people full of happiness.

Continuing the journey to Mongyawng

If you have more time, traveling onward to Mongyawng is an interesting option. I, mr.hotsia, visited the Mongyawng bus station, an important stop connecting Tachileik and Yuu. Traveling between these towns is convenient and allows close encounters with nature and local communities. Feelings After Riding a Trishaw Across the Border

For me, mr.hotsia, riding a trishaw around Tachileik is not just a trip but a true immersion into a different lifestyle and culture. It reveals the reality of border life that most people rarely experience. It’s not romantic or luxurious, but full of stories and warmth felt through conversations with locals and seeing a town that still firmly holds its traditional way of life.

If you enjoy adventurous travel and want to experience Myanmar beyond the big cities, don’t forget to add Tachileik to your next list. Try riding a trishaw around the town like me, mr.hotsia. I guarantee you will gain unique memories and experiences.
