With a width of 13 kilometers and a length of 24 kilometers, this lake is not only an important nature reserve but also a source of life and community livelihood for the Tai Daeng and Kachin people living around the lake in over 20 villages.

Once, I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to take a small boat out to experience the atmosphere by Indawgyi Lake. Amidst the cool breeze and soft morning sunlight, the scent of freshwater and surrounding trees created an indescribable freshness. What impressed me most on this trip was not just the natural beauty but the image of a young girl holding a single sword, skillfully slashing fish swimming in the water. Her gaze was as focused as a warrior on the battlefield, but her goal was to catch fish in clusters — a sight I had never seen anywhere else.

That girl is one of the villagers living by Indawgyi Lake. She and her family live simply, practicing fishing and farming in the traditional ways of the Tai Daeng and Kachin people. The fish slashing method I witnessed is a traditional technique passed down through generations. Her agility and precision made me think that this is another symbol of true strength and a deep bond with nature.
