Myitkyina 15: Eating the Giant Kachin Hotpot | Myitkyina Myanmar

When it comes to my journey, mr.hotsia heading to northern Myanmar, the destination not to be missed is the city ofMyitkyinaKachin State, a city full of charm and many stories, both nature and culture that differ from elsewhere. Importantly, the local cuisine is rich and intense. One dish that impressed me the most is the “Giant Hotpot” called “Kachin Hotpot,” which is a unique specialty here.

For this trip to Myitkyina, I chose to travel by car from Yangon, which took quite a long time due to the distance and some sections of unpaved roads. But once I arrived, all fatigue disappeared immediately because of the friendly local atmosphere and, most importantly, the food they were waiting for me to taste.

Giant Kachin Hotpot: A Delicious Must-Try

The Giant Kachin Hotpot is served in a large pot filled generously with fresh local ingredients including fresh vegetables, various mushrooms, pork, beef, and essential Kachin spices. The flavor is spicy with just the right heat, combined with the sweetness of broth simmered from pork bones and local herbs, making it enjoyable to eat continuously without feeling greasy.

I, mr.hotsia, tried this hotpot with local friends at a small roadside restaurant in downtown Myitkyina. The atmosphere here is not luxurious but full of warmth and laughter from the locals. Eating the hot, bubbling hotpot dipped in their special sauce, I felt the care and local wisdom clearly conveyed through this dish.

Travel and Lifestyle in Myitkyina, Kachin State

Myitkyina is a city located near the origin of the Irrawaddy River, the main river of Myanmar. This spot is where the Mali Hka and N'Mai Hka rivers converge to form the Irrawaddy River seen on maps. This is one of the reasons why Myitkyina is geographically and historically significant.Kachin StateThe surroundings of the city are full of rich nature and tribal villages that still maintain traditional lifestyles.

For traveling around this city, mr.hotsia recommends renting a motorcycle as it allows you to fully experience the atmosphere around. The people here are friendly and welcome tourists. Riding a motorcycle to explore small roadside villages offers a close look at the Kachin way of life, including vegetable farming, gardening, and traditional cooking.

Roadside Villages and Local Markets

On the way to the place where I rested and ate the giant hotpot, Myitkyina has very interesting local markets offering fresh food, dried goods, and household items. I walked around tasting simple snacks sold at stalls, which was a great opportunity to learn more about Kachin eating culture, such as crispy fried sticky rice bread with a perfectly balanced salty-sweet taste and fresh fruits grown locally.

The market also has Burmese-style tea shops and desserts made from local ingredients. This was a moment I, mr.hotsia, enjoyed sitting, sipping tea, watching people, and listening to the Kachin language, which sounded unfamiliar but very warm.

Connection with Nature and Nearby Attractions

After enjoying the giant hotpot in Myitkyina, I didn’t miss the chance to visit nearby natural attractions such as Indawgyi Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, surrounded by mountains and beautiful villages of the Red Tai and Kachin ethnic groups.Indawgyi LakeIt is an ideal spot for relaxation and natural studies, especially for those who enjoy birdwatching and wildlife.

This place reminded me of the relationship between nature and the Kachin lifestyle, which is well preserved. It inspired travelers like me to understand and respect the environment more.

Summary of the Giant Hotpot Experience in Myitkyina

For anyone wanting to try unique Burmese food with distinctive character, the Giant Kachin Hotpot in Myitkyina is an answer you shouldn’t miss. I, mr.hotsia, see it not just as a matter of taste but as an experience that truly connects you with the lifestyle and culture of the Kachin people.
