18 Unseen Myanmar in 5 minutes with mr.hotsia

Myanmar, or Burma, is a neighboring country full of the charm of ancient culture, beautiful nature, and a simple yet profound way of life. Today, I, mr.hotsia, will take you on a quick but comprehensive journey to 18 unseen spots in Myanmar within just 5 minutes. Each place has unique stories and attractions. Let's see what I discovered in this land that amazingly preserves its traditions.

1. The Origin of the Irrawaddy River at Myitsone, Kachin State

Let's start at an important natural site that many may not know, which isMyitsonein Kachin State, where the Mekong and Mali Rivers converge to form the source of the Irrawaddy River. I once rode a motorcycle from Myitkyina town to Myitsone, which took about 1 hour through mountains and small villages where locals still live traditionally, along with a unique beautiful river view. Motorcycle riding here requires wearing a helmet at all times for safety.

2. Indawgyi Lake, Kachin State

Another natural gem of Myanmar is Indawgyi Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Southeast Asia, located in Mohnyin district of Kachin State. I visited here during winter when many bird species, especially endangered ones, gather, creating a fresh and lively atmosphere. For bird lovers or those wanting to experience pristine nature, this place is perfect. Read more aboutIndawgyi Lakein my article.

3. Experience the Charm of Bagan with Local Food

Bagan is a city that most tourists must visit when coming to Myanmar because it is full of ancient pagodas and temples. But what I want to highlight is the food here, which is as impressive as the beauty of the pagodas. I stayed at Thongyang Oo near the morning market, which offers many local and international restaurants, especiallyShwe Yar Suwhere I loved the taste of chicken curry and Myanmar Beer Station beer that made my meals very enjoyable. There are also fresh and delicious street Burmese desserts. I recommend trying them when you visit here.

4. Horse Carriage Ride in Nyaung-U, Bagan

When it comes to traveling around Nyaung-U, I tried riding a horse carriage to truly experience the local atmosphere. The carriage seats two people and can be negotiated for about 10 USD. I chose to ride slowly around the town because the views here are not flashy but you get to see local life and dusty roads. Bring a face mask too. For those wanting to see Bagan's sea of pagodas at sunrise or sunset, renting a taxi might be more worthwhile than a horse carriage.Read about my horse carriage experience in Nyaung-Uhere.

5. Irrawaddy Riverside Market in Pathein

The riverside market in Pathein is another spot that impressed me greatly. The riverside lifestyle remains traditional. Locals sell fresh local products including vegetables, fruits, dried fish, and spices. The smells and sounds of the market made me feel like I traveled back to a time before modernity took over. If you want to experience traditional Burmese life, I recommend stopping here.Irrawaddy Riverside Market, Patheinindeed.

6. Deep into Kachin State at Hakha Town

I once traveled to Hakha town in Kachin State, which remains peaceful and surrounded by beautiful mountains and nature. The journey can be challenging due to poor roads, but once there, you will see the authentic culture of the Kachin people, which is clearly different from other cities in Myanmar.Read my story from Hakhato better understand the lifestyle here.

7. Street Food in Nyaung

For those who love street food, Myanmar, especially in Nyaung town, offers a variety of foods to try including sticky rice, grilled pork, and intensely flavored Burmese dishes. I walked along main streets and small alleys and found many small eateries scattered around. The locals are very friendly to tourists. Anyone wanting to taste authentic street food should not miss this.Nyaung Street Foodwhich I have written about.

8. Hauk Htawng Temple in Nyaung

Hauk Htawng Temple in Nyaung is one of the temples that impressed me a lot. Both the architecture and the peaceful atmosphere are perfect for meditation and understanding Burmese Buddhism. This temple is not as large as those in big cities but has a simple and profound charm.Read details about Hauk Htawng Templeto prepare for your visit.
