Kayah State 4/10: Journey to the Origin of the Kayah Long Neck in Myanmar KAYAH Long Neck MYANMAR

Hello, I am mr.hotsia, eager to share real travel experiences from the field. Today, I take friends heading toKayah StateA small land hiding the stunning beauty and amazing culture of the Kayah Long Neck people, also known as the "Long Neck Karen." This place is not just a home for the tribe but a living classroom of lifestyle, culture, and traditions that remain firmly preserved.

This journey for me, mr.hotsia, was not easy because Kayah State in Myanmar is not as easily accessible to general tourists as other major cities. Although there is no clear provincial information, the feeling of experiencing the atmosphere and people here is much deeper and more unique than expected.

First Steps into the Land of the Kayah Long Neck

After a rather challenging journey from the main city in Myanmar, I, mr.hotsia, delved deep into the Kayah Long Neck villages. This place is well known for women who wear brass rings around their necks, making their necks appear unusually long. At first sight, it is striking and makes you want to know their stories in depth.

In each village, I had the chance to talk closely with the locals. They told me about the meaning and history of wearing the neck rings, explaining that it is not just decoration but a symbol of beauty and pride in their culture. As a traveler who loves capturing images and stories, I felt the warmth and sincerity with which they welcomed me.

The Charm of Mountain Life

Kayah State is a region full of mountains and lush forests. Traveling into the Kayah Long Neck villages requires navigating winding paths surrounded by beautiful nature. I, mr.hotsia, tried walking to experience the simple village atmosphere where locals still live simply, growing kitchen gardens, raising animals, and practicing crafts passed down from ancestors.

My favorite moments were seeing children playing joyfully in the grass fields and women skillfully hand-weaving fabrics. Witnessing these made me recall the simplicity that many of us in big cities often forget.

Local Foods You Must Try

Speaking of food in Kayah State, I, mr.hotsia, must say it is fresh and uniquely flavored. Most dishes here use natural ingredients from the surroundings, such as wild vegetables, herbs, and home-raised meats.

One of my favorite dishes is the local spicy herbal curry, which is hot yet balanced. There is also sticky rice cooked traditionally, giving it a distinctive aroma. Additionally, grilled fish and fresh vegetable salads made by the villagers were so delicious that I had to ask for several more plates.

Tips and Advice from mr.hotsia

For traveling to Kayah State and the Kayah Long Neck villages, I recommend preparing well for the journey because most roads here are still dirt or narrow gravel paths. Using a four-wheel-drive vehicle or hiring local transport will make travel much easier.

Don't forget to bring clothing suitable for the weather, which is mostly cool in the mornings and evenings, with some warmth during the day but not too hot. Also, prepare a face mask as the roads can be dusty. I have mentioned this in my articles before.Horse Carriage Ride in Bagan, Paganwhich is a similar experience in Myanmar

Finally, always respect and honor the traditions of the Kayah people, as they still firmly preserve their original culture and are happy to share their stories to help us understand their world closely.
