Strawberry Wine, Hakka Town, Kachin State: Another peaceful corner not to be missed

Hello readers, today mr.hotsia will take everyone to experience the unique atmosphere of Kachin State, or Kachin in the local language, located in northern Myanmar. My destination this time is “Strawberry Wine,” a small town in the Hakka (Hakha) area, which many may not be familiar with. But for me, having arrived there, I can say it is a charming town with a fascinating way of life.

First, I must say that Kachin State is a region with complex mountainous terrain and is also the source of the main Irrawaddy River of Myanmar, which I have previously written about in an article.Exploring the Source of the Irrawaddy River, Mitgina, Kachin State, MyanmarIt is not far from Hakka, especially the Mekha and Maliha rivers, which merge to form the Irrawaddy River flowing southward through Myanmar.

Traveling to Strawberry Wine, Hakka Town

Traveling to Hakka Town is not easy for most foreign tourists due to winding mountain roads and long travel times. However, for mr.hotsia, renting a motorcycle was the best option because it allowed close contact with the surroundings and easy stops at small villages along the way. Especially the opportunity to talk with locals who still firmly preserve their traditional way of life.

Upon arriving at Strawberry Wine, I was impressed by a small fresh market near the town center. It was full of fresh fruits, especially the famous strawberries grown well in the cool mountain climate. The vendors were friendly and happy to let customers taste the fruit before buying. I didn’t miss tasting the sweet, fresh strawberries straight from the garden, which had a flavor unlike those I had eaten in central Thailand.

Lifestyle and Culture of the Hakka People

Strawberry Wine is not just about fruit; it is also a cultural hub of the Kachin people, known for their local language, traditional clothing, and weaving crafts passed down through generations. I had the chance to chat with villagers in small communities around the town and found that they strictly adhere to their customs and rituals. This beauty is something I want everyone to experience firsthand.

Additionally, tasting local food was another highlight of this trip. Most dishes focus on ingredients from the mountains and rivers, such as fresh river fish, local vegetables, and unique spices. I recommend trying “Kachin curry,” which has a rich flavor but is not very spicy, served with hot sticky rice, perfect for recharging after a tiring journey.

Connecting to Nearby Attractions in Kachin State

If you want to explore further, mr.hotsia recommends visitingIndawgyi Lakethe largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia, located not far from Hakka. It is an important wildlife sanctuary and home to many rare bird species. The peaceful atmosphere around the lake is ideal for renting a boat to truly enjoy nature.

Moreover, Hakka Town is a great starting point for trips to other parts of Kachin State, where you can experience high mountains, green fields, and various tribal villages with fascinating diverse cultures.

Closing Remarks from mr.hotsia

I, mr.hotsia, want to say that visiting Strawberry Wine in Hakka Town, Kachin State, was an eye-opening experience that helped me understand Myanmar’s diversity from a different perspective, very different from major tourist cities like Yangon or Mandalay. Here, you experience the true way of life of the Kachin people, the tranquility of nature, and the warmth of the locals, which is rare in today’s world.

If you enjoy unhurried travel, nature, and traditional culture, mr.hotsia recommends adding Strawberry Wine to your list of destinations. You will surely fall in love with this small town as I did.
