Banana in Burmese Coconut Milk and the Charm of Myanmar Girls through the Eyes of mr.hotsia

My journey to Myanmar with mr.hotsia this time was not just about sightseeing nature or temples, but also about truly experiencing the simple and warm culture and lifestyle. Especially the local dish called Banana in Burmese Coconut Milk, a dessert that looks simple but is full of memorable flavors and stories.

Banana in Burmese Coconut Milk is a dessert made from Myanmar's naturally sweet and soft-textured Namwa bananas, cooked in local fresh coconut milk that is fragrant and rich, blended with palm sugar and a little salt to create a balanced flavor that is not overly sweet. I vividly remember sitting in a small roadside market in Kachin State, an area rich in ethnic diversity and beautiful nature, where Myanmar girls in traditional costumes sold this delicious banana dessert to tourists and locals with friendly smiles.

The Myanmar girls I met at the market had a unique charm that impressed me deeply. It was not only their outer beauty but also their gentleness and attention to detail in preparing food and communicating with my limited language skills. They kindly recommended I try the banana dessert and carefully explained the traditional preparation method. This made the travel experience much more meaningful than just an ordinary trip.

Exploring the Lifestyle in Kachin State

Kachin State, one of the areas I had the chance to explore this time, is full of rich nature and diverse ethnic cultures, especially the Shan and Kachin ethnic groups who live simple yet strong lifestyles. I rented a motorcycle from my hotel to ride through small villages on the way to the source of the Irrawaddy River, known as Myitsone, about 40 kilometers away, taking approximately one hour.

Riding a motorcycle on the rough and dusty roads in Kachin State requires wearing a helmet at all times according to local law. Stopping at roadside villages allowed me to see the villagers' way of life, who still firmly preserve their ancient customs, including traditional weaving, rice farming, making desserts like banana in coconut milk, and exchanging smiles with lovely and friendly Myanmar girls.

Indawgyi Lake: A Natural and Cultural Destination You Must Visit

Besides Kachin State, I also had the opportunity to visit Indawgyi Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Southeast Asia, located in Mohnyin district of Kachin State. The lake stretches 24 kilometers long and about 13 kilometers wide. Around the lake are villages of Shan and Kachin people who still live by traditional farming and fishing.

This place is not only a beautiful natural site but also an important wildlife sanctuary, home to many rare and endangered bird species. Especially in January, Greylag geese and other migratory birds flock here. I rented a boat from a small guesthouse by the lake to go birdwatching and enjoy the truly peaceful atmosphere.

The Charm of Myanmar Girls and Street Food in Bagan

Anyone who has visited Bagan will know the variety of local foods with bold flavors. I, mr.hotsia, did not miss tasting street food and local restaurants in the morning market of this city. In Bagan, I recommend the local restaurant “Shwe Yar Su,” which offers delicious chicken curry and refreshing Myanmar Beer. There are also Indian roti and traditional Burmese sweets sold along the streets.

Walking through the morning market, I saw cute Myanmar girls in colorful traditional costumes selling various foods and desserts, including my favorite banana in coconut milk, which I try wherever I go. This is one of Myanmar's charms—not just a tourist destination but a chance to experience the culture and warmth of the people.
