Tinsaou, Burmese girls and Indawgyi Lake in Kachin State
I, mr.hotsia, recently had the chance to travel to northern Myanmar, especially Kachin State, which is still not widely known. But for those who love deep travel and experiencing the authentic lifestyle of the Burmese people, I can say this place is very interesting, especially “Tinsaou,” a small village byIndawgyi Lakeor what locals call “Indawgyi,” one of the largest freshwater lakes in Southeast Asia, located in Mohnyin District of Kachin State.
This trip to Tinsaou was not easy for me because I had to pass a rather challenging route, traveling by car from the main city in Kachin State for over an hour, passing through villages and vast rice fields before reaching the huge lake where the Red Tai or Shan people, as well as the Kachin, live peacefully and make their living.
Lifestyle and Culture of Burmese Girls in Tinsaou
Tinsaou is not just an ordinary village but a cultural and lifestyle center of the Shan ethnic group, also known as “Red Tai.” Here you will see Burmese women wearing brightly colored traditional sinh skirts, with graceful faces and distinctive long black hair. They are strong homeowners with agricultural skills passed down through generations.
I, mr.hotsia, had the opportunity to talk with many girls here. Many said that Indawgyi Lake is not only a source of food and water for them but also a sacred area connected to their traditional lifestyle and beliefs.
Indawgyi Lake, the Magical Lake of Kachin State
Indawgyi Lake is about 13 kilometers wide and approximately 24 kilometers long. Around the lake, there are more than 20 villages lining the shores, many of which I visited myself. The fresh air and tranquility make you feel like you've entered another untouched world.
This lake is situated about 166 meters above sea level and was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1999 because it is home to rare wildlife, especially various important bird species for the ecosystem, such as Greylag geese and the Lesser adjutant stork. January is the best time to see these birds in abundance. I recommend renting a boat from local guesthouses to explore the nature around the lake.
Local Food and Lakeside Market
Tinsaou and the villages around Indawgyi Lake have small markets where locals sell fresh vegetables, fruits, and food made from local ingredients such as freshwater fish from the lake and sticky rice grown locally. I tried food at a small lakeside restaurant, including rich curry and an ancient chili paste recipe with the authentic spicy flavor of the Red Tai.
Interestingly, the food here tastes similar to Thai cuisine but has its own unique character with intense flavors and distinct herbal aromas. Of course, dining by the lake with cool breezes and spectacular natural views is an experience not easily found elsewhere.
Connecting to Kachin State and Traveling in Northern Myanmar
If you are captivated by the beauty of Indawgyi Lake and want to continue traveling to other places in Kachin State, I, mr.hotsia, recommend visiting the source of the Irrawaddy River at Myitsone, which is not far from here.Kachin Stateis interesting for its nature and the main river of Myanmar, which I have recommended in previous articles. Traveling in this area is easier if you rent a motorcycle to explore around.
Also, if you are interested in deep cultural and culinary experiences of Myanmar, I recommend continuing to Bagan, a major tourist destination with delicious local food and horse carriage tours around the city.Food in BaganandHorse Carriage Rides in Baganare other experiences I want you to try.
Advice and Impressions from mr.hotsia
I, mr.hotsia, want to say that visiting Tinsaou and Indawgyi Lake showed me another side of Myanmar, not just pagodas or big cities, but the lifestyle of people truly connected to nature. The tranquility, naturalness, and warmth of the people here made me fall in love and want to share this with Thai people and travelers worldwide.
If you like adventurous travel and learning about indigenous cultures, Tinsaou and Indawgyi Lake are destinations you should not miss. And if you want to see real atmosphere photos, I have a video clip documenting the story here, which you can watch atTinsaou #BurmeseGirls #myanmar #Burma #Indawgyi #RedTai #Shan #IndawgyiLake #KachinState
Finally, traveling in Kachin State and around Indawgyi Lake may not be as convenient as typical tourist cities, but the sincerity and charm of the locals, along with the still-pristine nature, will make this trip an unforgettable memory.
