Forget Crispy Pork, Enjoy Burmese Canned Fish Salad in Pathein Pathein local food

When talking about Pathein in Myanmar, many might not be very familiar, but for mr.hotsia, this place is one of the destinations full of extraordinary local flavors. I had the chance to experience the atmosphere of the market by the Irrawaddy River, the main artery of Myanmar, and tasted a signature dish that reminded me of Thai crispy pork but was even more delicious and memorable.

The atmosphere at Pathein market is lively with vendors offering fresh and dried local products. I passed by shops selling canned fish lined up, including tilapia, mackerel, eel, and various other fish types that were pickled and seasoned carefully. This is completely different from canned fish in our country because here they make a Burmese-style canned fish salad with a balanced flavor of spicy, sour, sweet, and salty all in one bite.

I highly recommend this Burmese canned fish salad by mr.hotsia because it makes you forget Thai crispy pork. The special thing is they use high-quality canned fish mixed with fresh chili, lime, palm sugar, and freshly chopped vegetables, making every bite refreshing and spicy, perfect for Pathein's hot weather.

Previously, I have shared stories about local food in several Myanmar provinces such asBagan, Baganwhere the flavors impressed me greatly. But here in Pathein, the difference in ingredients and the canned fish salad flavor offers a more exciting new experience, especially dishes that blend local tradition with the creativity of the Burmese people here.

Besides the canned fish salad, mr.hotsia also tried crispy pork fried to a crunchy perfection, served with hot steamed rice and Burmese-style seafood dipping sauce, which has a slightly sweet and sour taste different from our crispy pork sauce. This is a must-order dish when visiting Pathein.

Traveling to Pathein is not as difficult as you might think. I chose to use local transport and explore the riverside market here, which is a gathering place for locals and travelers who love local food. It also offers a simple yet warm lifestyle atmosphere at the Irrawaddy riverside market in Pathein.Irrawaddy Riverside Market, Pathein)

The Irrawaddy River, Myanmar's main river with great historical and cultural significance, serves as a beautiful backdrop for strolling through the market and tasting food here. Although it is not in Kachin State, which I have visited before,Exploring the Source of the Irrawaddy River, Mitgina, Kachin StatePathein clearly shows the diversity of food and culture that has been passed down for a long time in Myanmar.

For travelers interested in food and wanting to try local dishes, Pathein is a great choice. Besides tasting Burmese canned fish salad, there are many fresh souvenirs and ingredients available at the riverside market, such as fresh mackerel, river prawns, and rare local vegetables.

The feeling when I ate Burmese canned fish salad here was like discovering a hidden gem in a small town that most people don’t know about. This is what makes me want to return, not just for the food but for the friendliness of the locals and the lively atmosphere of the riverside market.

If you want to experience the same as mr.hotsia, I recommend planning a trip to Pathein and don’t forget to try the canned fish salad at the Irrawaddy riverside market. I guarantee the taste and atmosphere will impress you as much as it did me.

Finally, I would like to share a video capturing the atmosphere of eating canned fish salad and crispy pork in Pathein, hoping it helps everyone see the deliciousness and travel vibe of mr.hotsia more clearly.
