A border tourist town near Myanmar that is an important tourist destination in Kanchanaburi. Sangkhlaburi has the Mon Bridge connecting the Mon side to the town of Sangkhlaburi. It is a wooden bridge with beautiful views, perfect for tourism. I recommend visiting early in the morning on weekdays when there are fewer tourists, ideal for relaxing and observing the Mon way of life in the morning. I have traveled to Mon State, Mawlamyine, and enjoyed seeing Mon houses with spirit shelves extending from the house. Mon houses in Sangkhlaburi are similar.

The dress of people here in Sangkhlaburi town is not very traditional, but on merit-making days or morning alms rounds, you can see people wearing sarongs. I like that. Sangkhlaburi is still a destination for tourists who love cultural experiences. Kanchanaburi has long been famous for nature tourism. For me, the best part is the food of Kanchanaburi. I find the food flavorful and delicious. On this trip, I discovered the most delicious holy basil stir-fry in my heart at Thong Pha Phum.

Very delicious, stir-fried with dried chili. In the town, I recommend Pa Yu's wild food near the Allied Cemetery and duck noodles opposite the River Inn hotel, sold in the evening from a pickup truck. For breakfast, walk to eat in front of the bus station, pork blood rice, very tasty. The food in Kanchanaburi is always number one in my heart. On this trip, I got to eat Pa Wiang's holy basil stir-fry in Thong Pha Phum, which has become my top favorite. Very delicious.

Traveling to Kanchanaburi is accessible by bus from the Southern Bus Terminal. To visit Sangkhlaburi, there are buses from Kanchanaburi bus station and also van services. The route from Kanchanaburi to Sangkhlaburi is mountainous, long, and not an easy flat drive, about 200+ kilometers, taking 3-4 hours, passing through Thong Pha Phum. If you have never driven on mountain roads, be careful. Emphasizing, it is not close. Accommodation in Sangkhlaburi is available on both the Mon side and the Sangkhlaburi town side.

Prices are around 400-500 baht for accommodation not by the river. The original hotel, the Red Hotel, is still operating today. When I stayed at Dok Bua Homestay, it was 150 baht per person per night, sleeping under a lotus fiber mosquito net. Dok Bua Homestay is not riverside but near the Mon Bridge on the Mon side, very convenient. There are also raft accommodations for those who like to sleep on rafts and eat river fish or reservoir fish. For long holidays, booking accommodation in advance is recommended. For accommodation in Kanchanaburi town, I stayed at River Inn Hotel.

A branch of River Kwai Hotel in Kanchanaburi, one of the entertainment centers in Kanchanaburi city, offering spa and massage services with a luxurious feel. Behind it, there is also a massage parlor in Kanchanaburi. The most impressive thing in Sangkhlaburi is the Mon Bridge in the morning, with beautiful views and Mon people crossing back and forth. I also like the authentic Burmese hot pot sold at the Sangkhlaburi evening market, delicious and only one baht per skewer. If you come during Buddhist holy days, you will be even more impressed by the Mon people's merit-making traditions. Mr.Hotsia Exciting Travel in Sangkhlaburi July 2015
