Thailand later brought the image from Laos to Bangkok. During the journey, one image sank in the Mekong River due to a broken raft. One image, Phra Sai, was stuck in Nong Khai. Another reached Bangkok successfully. Wat Pho Chai features beautiful and contemporary mural paintings that are unique, depicting the history of Nong Khai province past and present, including the story of Phra Sai. Mr.Hotsia January 2011. Luang Pho Phra Sai is a Buddha image in the meditation posture with the Mara Vichai mudra.

Cast in golden color, the Buddha image has a very beautiful appearance. The width of the lap is 2 cubits 8 inches, and the height from the base to the top of the ushnisha is 4 cubits 1 inch. It is currently enshrined inside the ubosot of Wat Pho Chai (a royal temple). It is highly revered and considered very sacred by the people of Nong Khai. According to history, the three daughters of the Lan Xang king (some believe they were daughters of King Chai Chetha) jointly created three personal Buddha images to continue Buddhism.

They named the Buddha images Phra Suk, Phra Serm, and Phra Sai. The sizes decrease accordingly. Phra Suk was for the eldest sister, Phra Serm for the middle sister, and Phra Sai for the youngest. The creation ceremony was grand, involving both the village and the temple. People continuously stoked the gold melting furnace for 7 days, but the gold did not melt. On the 8th day at noon, only a monk and a novice were stoking the furnace when a white spirit appeared and offered to help. The monk and novice went for lunch. The devotees who came to offer lunch saw many white spirits stoking the furnace, but when asked, the monk saw only one white spirit. After lunch, everyone came down and was amazed to see all the gold poured into three molds and the white spirit was gone.

After completion, Phra Suk, Phra Serm, and Phra Sai were enshrined in the Lan Xang kingdom capital. Whenever there was war or unrest, the people hid the Buddha images in Buffalo Mountain and returned them when peace was restored. The exact time they were enshrined in Vientiane is unclear. It is known that during King Rama III's reign, the Anouvong rebellion occurred in Vientiane. King Rama III ordered the destruction of Vientiane city.

Prince Bowon Wichaichan was appointed commander to suppress the rebellion. After Vientiane was pacified, Phra Suk, Phra Serm, and Phra Sai were brought to Nong Khai. It is said that the images were not taken directly from Vientiane but from Buffalo Mountain where the people had hidden them. The images were placed on bamboo rafts floating down the Ngum River. When reaching Wen Tan, a miracle occurred: the platform of Phra Suk broke and sank due to a strong storm that tilted the raft, unable to bear the weight. That area was named Wen Tan since then.

Phra Serm was enshrined at Wat Pathum Wanaram in Bangkok, brought from Vientiane. Continuing down the raft to the Mekong River near the mouth of the Ngum River, opposite Ban Nong Kung, Phon Phisai District, Nong Khai Province, a thunderstorm occurred. Phra Suk broke the raft and sank. The strange weather then cleared. That area was named Wen Suk since then.

Due to this event, only Phra Serm and Phra Sai arrived in Nong Khai. Phra Serm was enshrined at Wat Pho Chai, while Phra Sai was enshrined at Hor Kong or Wat Praditthamkhun. Later, during King Rama IV's reign, King Mongkut ordered Khun Worathani and Chao Men (officials) to bring Phra Serm from Wat Pho Chai to Bangkok. Khun Worathani intended to bring Phra Sai along with Phra Serm.

However, the Brahmin who transported the images could not pull the cart carrying Phra Sai despite all efforts. Eventually, the cart broke. When a new cart was found, it still could not move. They agreed to enshrine Phra Sai at Wat Pho Chai. After making this wish, only a few people were needed to bring Phra Sai. Prince Damrong Rajanubhab commented that these three Buddha images are Lan Xang style and more beautiful than other Buddha images.

He hypothesized two possibilities for their creation: either they were made in an eastern city of the Lan Xang kingdom and later came under Lan Xang territory, or they were made within Lan Xang by skilled Lao craftsmen. Inside the ubosot of Wat Pho Chai, Nong Khai, there are mural paintings of Wat Pho Chai. The murals depict the history and stories of the temple. This includes the Naga crest at Wat Pho Chai and Luang Pho Phra Sai in Nong Khai. This clip shows the Naga crest.
