Experience local Phang Nga cuisine, explore Takua Pa, dine at scenic restaurants in Phang Nga, and find recommended hotels in Phang Nga. I took a bus from Takua Pa to Kuraburi, then a motorcycle from the bus station to Bang Daet Pier, fare 100 baht. After that, I took a local passenger boat departing at 11:30 AM to Koh Phrathong, boat fare 60 baht.

I stayed at a homestay with locals in a house in the middle of the sea on Koh Phrathong. Previously, about 400 people lived here; today only 100-200 remain due to the tsunami, with many moving to the mainland. The locals on Koh Phrathong are all Thai Buddhists, with Chinese descent and some mixed Moken heritage. Their main occupation is fishing for their own consumption, not for sale. They mostly use hooks and nets. They also gather shellfish, shrimp, crabs, and squid. The food here is very abundant and fresh.
If you want to eat something special, call ahead to reserve and inform them so you can enjoy delicious food at very reasonable prices. I recommend contacting Luk Pha, a woman, at 0844404289 or Mr. Chai at 0819573885. The first number is the house where I stayed; the second is another contact I used. Either number works, but you must book in advance as there are always guests. Their house is beautifully set by the sea. Aunt Da makes delicious food. Activities during the visit include watching them cook, shrimp spotting, fishing for squid, shellfish, depending on the season. It varies.
You should call ahead to check what is available during your visit. I really like Koh Phrathong Homestay because there are no tourists, only locals. It's quiet and feels like you are part of the place. Very peaceful and wonderful. I highly recommend everyone to visit here. On the return trip from Koh Phrathong to Bang Daet Pier, Kuraburi Island, the boat leaves exactly at 8:00 AM. If the tide is low, the boat cannot reach Bang Daet Pier, so you have to walk along the canal yourself.
Therefore, bring shorts for convenience. From Bang Daet Pier to Kuraburi town, ask the boatman to call a motorcycle taxi from Kuraburi town to pick you up. The motorcycle fare is 80 baht per trip. On the way there, I paid 100 baht from the bus station; the return trip is cheaper. Mr.Hotsia Exciting Trip September 8, 2015.
