It used to take hours because they had to generate their own electricity on the island, unlike before. Now, with their own power plant, there's no need to generate power themselves. The electricity is available from 18:00 to 22:00. The tourist season on Koh Lipe follows the Andaman Sea's tourist season, starting from November until April. In November, there is an island opening festival celebrated by the locals of Lipe. The villagers take three days and nights off to celebrate with music performances on the island. There are about
400 rooms on the island, mainly at the main tourist beach, Pattaya Beach, and another 200 rooms combined at other beaches. Prices vary, starting from a basic fan room at 600 baht per night, and air-conditioned rooms around 1500 baht. During the tourist season, accommodations on Koh Lipe must be booked in advance because they fill up quickly. If you want to take a chance, there are still some affordable rooms available. Koh Lipe used to have a shortage of accommodations, but now there are more, so this is no longer a problem. Food on Koh Lipe is quite expensive.
Most shops use a two-price system: one price for Thais and another for foreigners, but it is still expensive. For example, stir-fried basil with fried egg costs 100 baht per plate, ice cream cones are 80 baht each, and single dishes are about 100 baht per plate. However, seafood on the beach is cheaper than on the mainland. Sea fish costs about 200 baht per kilogram, including cooking fees. Therefore, eating seafood on Koh Lipe is more worthwhile than eating stir-fried basil with fried egg. Besides swimming and beach activities,
most tourists rent boats to go snorkeling and see coral reefs on nearby islands. If you come in a group, you can rent a whole boat, or if you come alone or in pairs, you can join shared tours with others. The price is about 800 baht per person per day, with trips starting at 09:00 and returning in the evening. Some people who don't like snorkeling just enjoy watching the sunrise and sunset on the islands. Sunrise can be viewed at Sunrise Beach, and sunset at Pattaya Beach. For Mr.Hotsia, I find this place too hot and expensive.
In my style of travel, I prefer cultural tourism and observing local lifestyles, so I don't stay long on the island. Koh Lipe has no ATMs, but some restaurants or big hotels accept credit cards for cash withdrawal. It's best to withdraw money at Pak Bara pier beforehand, where there are ATMs. Traveling to Koh Lipe by yourself is very convenient, with several routes available, including by plane
or car before transferring to a boat. For those who prefer tours, several companies offer packages. Mr.Hotsia, November 2011. Travel information for Koh Lipe. Sunset at Koh Lipe.
