Travel Satun: Getting to Koh Lipe
Getting to Koh Lipe http://www.hotsia.com > Travel Satun > Getting to Koh Lipe Before traveling to Koh Lipe, I found it difficult to get clear information on how to travel there independently. Most websites just copy information from the Tourism Authority of Thailand. So I wrote this separately to make it easier and more confident for anyone traveling to Koh Lipe on their own. The main pier used to travel to Koh Lipe is Pak Bara Pier in Satun Province.
At the pier, there are passenger boats to Koh Lipe, including slow boats and speed boats. The speed boat takes less than two hours, including a 15-minute stop at Tarutao and 10 minutes at Koh Khai. The actual travel time is only about 1.5 hours. The speed boat ticket costs 400 baht per person. I saw signs at Lipe. I bought a van ticket from Hat Yai to Pak Bara and then took the speed boat to Lipe. The round trip cost was 1,200 baht.
Return tickets do not require date or time to be specified yet. The speed boat docks at the pier in front of Pattaya Beach, where you need to take a long-tail boat for 50 baht per person to other beaches. I went to Pattaya Beach and found accommodation myself. During the low season (May to October), the speed boat docks directly at the beach, but in the high season, you need to transfer to a long-tail boat. I do not recommend the slow boat as it takes too long for travelers with limited time.
To get to Pak Bara Pier, I flew directly from Bangkok to Hat Yai with AirAsia, where I got a promotional price of 699 baht online. Then I took a vehicle from Hat Yai to Pak Bara. Alternatively, you can fly to Trang and travel down to Pak Bara, or take a bus from Bangkok to Satun. There is also a boat service from Langkawi Island, Malaysia to Koh Lipe. Mr.hotsia December 2011.
