For crossings to Myanmar, Maesot Airport offers Nok Air flights from Maesot to Mawlamyine. Maesot Airport is small with no ATMs, shops, or currency exchange counters. It is recommended to prepare in advance before arriving at the airport. If you fly into Maesot, there are no motorcycle taxis at the airport. You must walk to the main road and call one yourself. For those without a passport, only a national ID card can be used.
You can apply for a temporary travel document next to the PTT gas station, not at the border checkpoint. The fee is 30 baht. If you apply in the morning, you must leave before 5 PM. Myanmar immigration will hold your ID card until you return, then it will be returned to you. Unlike the Laos-Thailand border, Myanmar does not keep your ID card.
