I stayed at Tukasu on my second night in Umphang. The first night I stayed at Pakayo Resort, 136 Moo 3, Umphang Subdistrict.
Umphang District, Tak Province 63170, Phone: 08 9959 0989, 0 5556 1022. Pakayo Resort is a quiet resort located in a Karen or Pakayo village, hence the name Pakayo Resort. It is next to rice fields and a stream. Those who enjoy nature like this will probably like it. On the second night, Brother Woody invited me to stay at Tukasu. Tukasu is closer to Umphang market, so if you don't have your own vehicle, you can walk to the evening and morning markets.
Tukasu's highlight is Brother Woody, who is very knowledgeable about Umphang's tourist routes and also works in Umphang conservation efforts. During my stay, I learned a lot about forest conservation in Umphang. Actually, there are many accommodations in Umphang found online, but they are still insufficient during the winter season. So if you plan to visit Umphang during a long holiday, it is recommended to book in advance. Otherwise, you might have to rent a tent to sleep.
Driving back to Mae Sot for another 4 hours is difficult. When I stayed there, I was lucky that a group had booked at Tukasu, and the school arranged a performance by hill tribe children from Umphang Witthayakhom School. I got to watch the entire show.
