Krua Jakwan Sakaeo: Authentic Thai Flavors in a Quiet Town

When talking about Sakaeo Province, many might think of a small town that is not very lively. The town has no clock tower or fountain roundabout like other provinces. But for me, mr.hotsia, Sakaeo has a unique charm that is hard to find elsewhere, especially in its local food which is boldly flavored and hidden in small eateries. One of these isKrua Jakwan Restaurantwhich I had the chance to visit and taste on my latest trip.

Krua Jakwan is located in downtown Sakaeo. It is not notable for a large storefront, but the aroma of carefully stir-fried dishes with bold flavors stopped me in my tracks and made me try it immediately. I remember the first time I heard about this place from a local friend who said the “Stir-fried Wild Boar with Sataw” here is excellent. The wild boar used is bought from Makro Sakaeo itself. The cooking skill here is the key to the unforgettable taste that impressed me deeply.

Must-try dishes: Stir-fried Wild Boar with Sataw and Ostrich Stir-fried with Black Pepper

I ordered the Stir-fried Wild Boar with Sataw as my first dish. I must say the flavor was rich and perfectly spicy. The fresh, crispy sataw beans combined with the fragrant wild boar created a deep taste unlike any stir-fried sataw I’ve had in Bangkok or other provinces.

Additionally, I ordered crab fried rice with a fragrant wok aroma and firm crab meat as a side dish, and an unusual dish, Ostrich Stir-fried with Black Pepper, which seems to be a local dish blending international flavors perfectly. The tender, non-chewy ostrich meat stir-fried with strong black pepper made every bite full of diverse textures and flavors.

Another interesting aspect of Krua Jakwan is their way of calling staff: they use a “bamboo tube” that customers tap when they need service. This is something I have never seen anywhere else. It adds a small charm that makes this small restaurant feel warm and friendly.

Sakaeo: A Small Town Waiting for You to Discover

If you have a chance to visit Sakaeo Province, don’t think this town has nothing to offer. Although it is small and quiet, it has a unique charm. The town is not as chaotic as big cities. Most houses still live simply. There is a local buffalo training school and only a few small restaurants open, making a visit here feel like stopping time and truly experiencing local life.

For accommodation in downtown Sakaeo, I recommend booking in advance as options are limited. Prices are around 700 baht per night with Wifi available, suitable for travelers seeking moderate comfort.Sakaeo Province Travel Informationto help you prepare better before your visit

Near the Border: Aranyaprathet and Rong Kluea Market

If you want to experience the full liveliness of Sakaeo Province, I recommend driving to Aranyaprathet District, a border district trading with Cambodia. Rong Kluea Market here is famous for secondhand goods, clothes, and food from the Cambodian side. The trip from downtown Sakaeo to Aranyaprathet is short. If you are interested in a full market experience along with tasting local street food, don’t miss trying Cambodian food sold near the market as well.

I plan to return to Sakaeo on my next trip to visit Rong Kluea Market and experience the interesting border lifestyle. For those interested in more stories about Sakaeo Province, you can read atSakaeo Provincewhich I have previously written.

Summary of Impressions from Krua Jakwan

For me, mr.hotsia, Krua Jakwan is a restaurant worth visiting to taste unique dishes with bold authentic Thai flavors. I like how this place preserves the natural quality of ingredients and flavors without over-seasoning. I believe if you pass through Sakaeo and don’t stop here, you will miss a hidden gem in this small town.

Remember, Sakaeo is not just about the border or Rong Kluea Market, but also about local food and lifestyle waiting to be discovered. Krua Jakwan is one of the destinations I, mr.hotsia, proudly recommend to travelers who love truly bold Thai flavors.
