Traveling Chumphon with mr.hotsia: A peaceful town, a gateway to dream islands

I, mr.hotsia, just traveled from Surat Thani to Chumphon by van. The fare is about 170 baht and it takes around 3 hours. The route between these two provinces offers ever-changing natural scenery, including mountains and the sea drawing closer. Arriving in Chumphon just after 3 PM, it was clear that this town is much quieter than expected. It is not as bustling as other famous tourist cities but has the charm of a transit town that you must stop by at least once before sailing to Koh Tao, Koh Nang Yuan, or other marine attractions.

Accommodation and Transportation in Chumphon

Chumphon offers a variety of accommodations ranging from budget to luxury. I stayed in the city center, which was very convenient because there are shuttle services to the pier for boats to Koh Tao at about 300 baht. Many hotels offer this service, and I received it from my hotel. Air-conditioned rooms in the city cost around 450 baht. For more comfort, rooms priced at 700 baht are available. However, if you plan to stay in a fan room during the hot season, I think it’s really too hot. For me, with this kind of heat, air conditioning is essential.

Chumphon city itself is not as lively as major tourist cities but has its own charm. The night market street stretches for several hundred meters and is a place I, mr.hotsia, enjoy strolling after sunset. There are plenty of local food stalls and snacks to try. This walking route is perfect for those who want to experience the real lifestyle of Chumphon people. Not far away is the weekend walking street in front of the municipality, held on Saturdays and Sundays. It’s a great opportunity to see local culture and products, as well as meet foreign tourists who often stop for just one night before boarding boats to Koh Tao.

Getting to Know the Districts in Chumphon Province

Chumphon is divided into several interesting districts including Mueang Chumphon, Tha Sae, Pathio, Lang Suan, Lamae, Patho, Sawi, and Thung Tako. On this trip, I chose to stay in the city center first, which gave me a genuine experience of Chumphon life. But if I have the chance, I plan to visit other districts to explore their unique details and atmospheres. Each district has distinct temples, schools, and markets. I have prepared complete information so anyone interested can plan their trip following me without missing out.Chumphon Fresh Sea Fish MarketandChumphon Fish Marketare also places you must experience because they are sources of fresh seafood where many locals and vendors live simple daily lives.

What to Eat in Chumphon? Answers from mr.hotsia

Speaking of Chumphon, we must talk about food. I, mr.hotsia, recommend tryingChumphon Chicken Ricewhich is a simple dish but with a bold, delightful flavor. Or if you like red pork, you must not missChumphon Red Pork Riceat a famous city restaurant. I stopped by so often I have to recommend it.

Additionally, the night market street offers a variety of foods to taste, including Chumphon-style rice noodles with curry sauce, fresh seafood brought in from the Lang Suan coastal fishing boats, fresh squidand other local dishes that I, mr.hotsia, recommend trying. Besides enjoying delicious food, you also get to experience the warm local trading atmosphere.

Lifestyle and Atmosphere of Chumphon You Must Experience

Chumphon is a town where people still live simply. I walked around the night market and saw locals doing small businesses with smiles. The market here is not as large as those in famous tourist cities but has the charm of a tight-knit community. Importantly, on weekends, the walking street in front of the municipality fills with both locals and tourists. Walking through local art exhibitions, handmade souvenirs, and local food makes you feel that this town has preserved its unique identity very well.

If you want to experience peace and nature not far from the city, I, mr.hotsia, recommend stopping byLang Suan Coastal Fishing Boats in Chumphonor if you like green scenery and good coffee, don’t missIf Jai Dee Chumphon Mountain Coffeewhere you can enjoy fresh coffee and beautiful views.
