Surin Walking Street: A Local Lifestyle Everyone Must Experience
I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit Surin Walking Street in October 2011, a period when the crowd was not very lively, unlike walking streets in big cities usually filled with tourists. What I liked most was the authentic, homey atmosphere of Surin locals. This walking street is open daily and serves as a meeting point for Surin residents, both young and elderly, who come to shop for food and daily necessities in the evening and night.
Surin Walking Street focuses mainly on dinner foods, with comfortable seating available. Most dishes are local Surin and Isan cuisine, known for their bold flavors typical of the locals. I tried some signature dishes sold at street stalls, such as spicy papaya salad, grilled chicken, and the delicious sea bass miang that I highly recommend (try Mae Pim Grilled Fish).Read more)
Besides food, this walking street also has various youth clothing shops, reflecting that Surin has a considerable number of young people. This makes the walking street lively and vibrant. I personally enjoyed browsing the casual fashion mixed with the relaxed local atmosphere.
Why Visit Surin Walking Street?
As someone who enjoys deep cultural travel, I, mr.hotsia, highly recommend Surin Walking Street because it’s not just a typical market but a genuine community space where locals gather after work or daily errands.
Compared to the Surin morning market, which I also like very much (Surin Morning MarketRead more), this walking street has fewer people but is filled with warmth and friendliness rarely found in large tourist markets. Here you will see a blend of Khmer-Isan lifestyles that truly reflect the identity of Surin people.
