Travel on Samet Island: A real experience from mr.hotsia

Samet Island, Rayong Province, is a destination I, mr.hotsia, always recommend for those wanting to experience the sea near Bangkok without going too far, offering a complete travel experience including nature, beaches, food, and a friendly atmosphere. But many might wonder, “What is traveling on Samet Island like?” So I want to share my firsthand experience.

Starting from Ban Phe Pier on the Rayong mainland, after crossing by boat to Samet Island, you arrive at Na Dan Pier. Here, I, mr.hotsia, find traveling on this island very easy and convenient because there are green songthaew (shared pickup trucks) running all along the routes to various beaches and bays on the island, including the popular Sai Kaew Beach favored by young people, as well as Wang Duan Bay, Thian Bay, Lung Dam Bay, and Wai Bay. The songthaews cover all these key spots.

The fare prices are fair and transparent, starting at just 10 baht for short distances and up to 60 baht for the longest routes. You can see the price signs and receipts I photographed in this article. Although the prices suit groups of passengers, solo travelers or those renting the vehicle alone will pay a bit more but still within reasonable limits with no price gouging.

The songthaew queue is located in front of the 7-Eleven store, which is an easy-to-find landmark on Samet Island. Here, there is a 7-11 and an ATM with full services, so tourists don’t need to worry about bringing many supplies from Rayong mainland because prices for goods and food on the island are not much different from the mainland.

Travel options on the island and accommodations

For those who don’t want to wait for the songthaew or want to explore every beach freely, I, mr.hotsia, have tried renting a motorcycle for 300 baht per day. Although this price seems higher than other places like Pai where I paid 80 baht per day, it’s worth it if you want to travel around the whole island fully, especially if you plan to stay at several beaches.

Accommodations on Samet Island range from budget to luxury resorts. I recommend booking in advance if you come during festivals or long holidays because accommodations fill up quickly, especially at Sai Kaew Beach, which is the most popular beach suitable for young people or those who enjoy a lively atmosphere close to the beach and many restaurants.

Atmosphere and activities on Samet Island

Samet Island is not only great for daytime swimming and beach relaxation but also lively at night. Many beaches have restaurants and unique fire-spinning shows that are a signature of Samet Island for enjoyable entertainment. I, mr.hotsia, stayed at Sai Kaew Beach and tried local food at Jeab Bungalow restaurant. The food there is delicious and affordable, suitable for all types of tourists.

Connecting Rayong’s essence and lifestyle

For those planning a complete trip to Rayong, I, mr.hotsia, recommend visiting Wat Lum Market and Old Wat Lum Market in Rayong city. Wat Lum Market is a seafood and local food market I really like because it offers fresh seafood and unique Thai desserts to try, such as Khanom Tang Taek, Khanom Krok, and Khanom Rang Phueng, which dessert lovers of traditional sweets should not miss.Fish watching at Wat Lum Market, RayongandOld Wat Lum Market area, Rayongare very interesting places to learn about Rayong’s culture and lifestyle.

Traveling from Wat Lum Market to Ban Phe Pier is not far, making the connection for round trips between Rayong city and Samet Island easy and convenient, perfect for those who want to explore both the sea and local communities in one trip.

The wooden bridge on Samet Island: A must-visit photo spot

If you visit Samet Island, don’t forget to stop by the wooden bridge, which has become a popular photo landmark of the island. Samet is not only about beautiful beaches but also has picturesque spots that I, mr.hotsia, believe are made for capturing memories with the island’s atmosphere genuinely.

Summary of travel experience on Samet Island

From my experience traveling and living on Samet Island, I believe this place suits everyone who wants to escape the hustle and bustle and relax by a beautiful sea with convenient, modern, and fair-priced transportation, as well as full services including convenience stores, diverse accommodations, and activities to choose from.

If you want a travel experience beyond just walking on the beach or taking beautiful photos but want to deeply experience Rayong’s lifestyle and essence, I recommend taking the boat at Ban Phe Pier and starting your journey on Samet Island with the green songthaew or renting a motorcycle as you prefer.

And don’t forget to visit Wat Lum Market and Old Wat Lum Market in Rayong city to complete your trip perfectly with mr.hotsia style.
